In the fall of their first semester at Trinity Western University Aaron first saw Emily from a distance at the freshman assembly and could not take his eyes off of her. The next day they met at the Fraser River on a dorm date and Emily asked him if he would jump into the river with her and Connor. Shy yet intrigued, Aaron said yes, and along with their good friend Connor, they jumped into the river together -- Who would have known a simple leap into the river, would be a jump start to the rest of their lives together -- The rest of the dorm date, and countless nights after that, were spent talking and getting to know each other better. However, it did not take long for Aaron to realize that Emily was a special girl, and one that he could see himself being with for the rest of his life.
Aaron wanted to do something special and memorable for their first date, so he took Emily up to the top of Grouse Mountain. There they spent the day hiking through the snow from the ice rink, to the bear den, to the ginger bread house exhibit. It was a simple date full of genuine conversation, laughter, lots of pictures, and Emily consistently "slipping" so that she would have to hold Aaron's hand to stay on her feet. It was the first of of many perfect outings for the couple.
Aaron had known where he was going to propose to Emily for years (place where they first met). So naturally, he recruited his best friend Connor to help him with the proposal. They convinced Emily to go for coffee with them in Fort Langley, the morning of Emily and Aaron's University graduation. Emily was resistant at first, but Connor convinced her that it would be cute to reminisce where they all first met. On the morning of the proposal, with coffee in hand, they headed across to the other side of the river. It was there that Connor casually stepped aside to "take a phone call", so that Aaron could spill his heart and kneel down to ask Emily to marry him. The first time they met at the Fraser River, she asked him to jump with her, but this time Aaron asked her to take the leap....and thankfully she said YES!
