I consider myself very lucky to have found my new best friend. Michela and I met each other using the Mutual dating app in October 2021. I was an audiobook narrator in England, and she was a copywriter in USA. Arranging our first online date was a challenge, overcoming time zones, distance, and busy family plans, but at last we succeeded and our first date was a virtual escape room.

Since then we discovered we had a mutual love of board games, books, and video games. Two months later, Michela made the leap of flying all the way to England for two weeks so we could meet in person. Our connection grew with every moment shared together. Spending time together was easy. We visited castles, went axe throwing, and tried dance lessons. Michela attempted to introduce me to rock climbing, but my crippling fear of heights kept me firmly attached to the ground. Our love grew as we embarked on adventures to renaissance faires, where I discovered another hobby: medieval armored combat.

It didn't take me long to know I wanted to spend the rest of life and beyond with her. To mirror our first date, I arranged with a local escape room to hide the marriage proposal in one of their puzzles and invited the whole family to attend. The moment came when Michela uncovered the proposal riddle, I dropped to my knee, the family pulled out their phones, and Michela looked on at us all very confused. I realised I hadn't written a good riddle when she responded with "what are you doing?"

She said yes, and we began planning our life together. However, the biggest villain needed to be defeated before we were free to marry: the immigration process! We applied for my fiancé visa July 4th 2022, and on Dec 4th 2023 I finally entered the US with fiancé visa in hand.
