The story of how we met was truly one of those "meant to be" moments. So, lets start from the very beginning. Nick and I met Labor Day weekend 2021 at one of his family parties. Now you might be wondering, if you didn't know Nick yet, why were you at one of his family parties?

Well, I had actually been introduced to the Sisto's for quite some time before Nick and I met. This was because Nick's cousin and I, Danielle, grew to become good friends after meeting each other at work in 2019. Since I didn't have any family or friends in the area when I moved to Illinois for my internship in college, Danielle would invite me to her family parties and over for holidays. I grew to love tagging along, mostly for the great company...and the food!

Years go by and finally come's Danielle's annual Labor Day weekend party at her house. Honestly, I wasn't even planning to go this year but I knew it was almost a tradition at that point so I showed up alone that Sunday afternoon. Little did I know that would have been the best decision I had ever made.

I will always remember the first time I saw Nick at that party. I was sitting at Danielle's dining room table, facing the front door. People had been coming in all throughout the day, so I wasn't paying much attention. Suddenly, an unfamiliar group of people walked in and yes, one of those people was Nick. He immediately caught my eye. He didn't walk past one person without stopping to give them a big hug and kiss on the cheek. Then, he got to me, and he greeted me with the same as everyone else, a big hug and kiss on the cheek!

It might sound so silly, but I had never seen someone be so polite and intentional, especially to a complete stranger!

I immediately turned to my friends Danielle and Sanja, who was also a good friend from work at the party, and asked "who is that?!" He had walked away from us in the dining room and I honestly was not expecting to see him much the rest of the day. But, to my surprise, Nick came right back to the dining room and took an open spot across from me. We spent the rest of the party talking, laughing, and trying to subtly get to know each other with 3 other people at the table!

I remember talking to Nick's dad for the first time before Nick had even come back to sit down, not knowing who he was. He was asking me where I was from and when I said "Minnesota" we shared a few jokes about hunting, fishing, typical Minnesota things.

I remember meeting Nick's mom for the first time and I knew immediately who she was, Nick is a spitting image of her! Little did I know that day would be the day I not only met my future husband, but my in-laws too!

It was getting later in the evening and I was ready to call it a night. Nick walked me to the door, asked for my number before I left, I gave him my REAL number and walked out the door. I was in awe with what just happened. I felt like I had met the most interesting, funny, and nice man. I called my friend Jaclyn driving home and told her everything. For anyone who knows me, you know I rarely call people on the phone, so Jaclyn knew it must had been important. She went on to listen to me share all of the amazing things I learned about him, even though we had only spent a few hours with each other. She laughed, told me to not let this one go even if it means texting him first. Scary, I know.

Well, he did end up texting and we tried for a couple weeks to get together but with our busy schedules it proved to be very difficult. I finally reached out one day and asked to do dinner, so bold. We ended up going out that weekend. I drove from my apartment in Schaumburg to his parents house in Chicago. We were meeting there and then he would drive to the restaurant. He took me to this great Italian spot with a patio outside. We sat there and spent the next two hours talking, getting to know each other more. I found out he actually had no plans to go to Danielle's labor day party that year. He was on his way actually to another party, and it fell through. I knew then that we met for a reason. I'm not sure we would have met, at least not for a while, if it weren't for us both ending up at that party that neither of us planned to attend.

After our dinner, Nick asked me if I wanted to come back to his parents house to hang out more. His parents were in Florida at the time. I didn't want the night to end so I agreed. We ended up spending more time in his parents back yard for several hours. The night was getting later and I was getting ready to drive home. Nick asked if I wanted to come back tomorrow and go in his pool. He must have really wanted to see me again, right! I said sure and came right back Sunday morning. From that day, we wanted to spend as much time with each other as possible. We saw each other almost every weekend. Driving to and from Schaumburg to Chicago, trying to make time for one another even though it felt we were hours away. We made it work, and eventually made it official a few months later.

Now, that's the long version of our story and thank you for sticking with me, but as I stated earlier, Nick and I were meant to be from day one. We are so different in so many ways, but always make each other a priority. The memories we've shared over the years are only the beginning, and the excitement that brings me is something I cant put into words.
