So- as you all may know, Abby and I met at a Brain Surgery patient mixer...

Or at least that's what we joked we would tell everyone.

In reality, ours is a modern love story of swipes, messages, an almost ghosting, and eventually annoying her enough that she couldn't get rid of me :)

We swiped right in late January of 2024, and messaged back and forth- our first chats were purely about the New York Times games section (mainly the Wordle and the game Connections). We went back and forth for a couple weeks before deciding we should meet up in person- For me, there was only one problem... it was rapidly approaching Valentine's Day- and I didn't want our first date to be weirdly pressurized because of the holiday. But I couldn't figure out how to keep her messaging me back if I just send my game scores and some witty banter.

One night, it was "Throwback Night" at Henry's Upstairs, and I went out with friends- leading to a drunk text from me, asking Abby for a Wordle Hint- and when she didn't message me back at midnight- I decided I screwed it up- didn't send my scores the next day or two, and this was about to become just another swipe and chat for a couple weeks and move on...

But thankfully, Abby- in her wonderful courageously bold way, had more to say,

"Ghosting be damned- I'm like, really proud of this score..."

BUSTED.

So after I owned up that she caught me in my embarrassment from a late night text, we went to Limestone Pizza in downtown Lawrence for a first date, and hit it off really well! We clicked, and it just felt right, you know? From there, it was nothing but Buca Di Beppo, Trash Night, hanging out with Parker, and telling folks we'd been dating for six weeks or so!

I'm so lucky she had the courage to reach back out, and that she had a great wordle day (2/6 IYKYK) because now, I get to spend the rest of my life with her.
