Abby's Version:
Landon and I were friends for a while and ran in the same group during college. On our spring break trip in 2019, he tried to kiss me goodnight. I wasn’t too interested or at least that’s what I told myself. But in the weeks that followed something shifted and without even realizing it, I found myself looking for Landon in every room I walked into.
On June 23rd, 2019, Landon officially asked me to be his girlfriend. And somehow, my overnight bag turned into a drawer… then half the closet… and eventually, a life together. Not your typical “moving in” story, especially when your boyfriend has all male roommates...but I survived! Fast forward to 2023, Landon’s promotion brought us to Charleston, where we started our newest chapter—just the two of us!
I like to think I’m pretty intuitive, but Landon managed to pull off months of planning for the proposal and I had zero clue. He bought a ring, recruited my sister to stage a fake photo shoot and completely surprised me. While half-posing for what I thought was a cheesy couples shot, I turned around and he was down on one knee. I could see his mouth moving and his sweet eyes looking up at me, but I totally blacked out and didn’t hear a word he said.
But I didn’t need to—I already knew the answer was yes!
(Don't worry, I made him repeat the whole proposal speech again in the car. Word for word. It was perfect)
Landon's Version:
Abby and I were always friends but I had a secret crush on her the whole time. Spring break of 2019, I went for the classic romantic goodnight kiss and she wasn't into me or was? I'm still not too sure somedays lol
But soon after, I was finally able to get my goodnight kiss and make her my girlfriend officially. We moved in together in Columbia while having a rotation of my buddies as roommates for 4 years, she was a real trooper to deal with all of us.
In 2023 I took a promotion that would make the big move to Charleston. It was a huge leap, away from most of our friends, family and where we both grew up but the decision never felt hard because home isn’t always a place, it can be a person. And for me, that person has always been Abby.
After months of practicing, planning, and making her wait longer than I probably should have, I asked her to marry me on December 7th, 2024 and thankfully, she said yes!
(And yes, I repeated my entire proposal speech on the car ride home like 5 times).
