Most of you know us very well so it will come as no surprise that we met in typical Abby and Josh fashion... on a golf course.
In 2018 a mutual friend Phil organized casual Sunday morning matches at Nonesuch Golf Club. It was there when one fateful morning we got paired together. Now if you ask Josh, it was just a random coincidence however, Abby will tell you that she might have had something to do with it. Either way, it was certainly the start of something special, a very slow start, but a start nonetheless.
As the next couple years went by, we became better golfers and better friends...until, in June of 2022, Abby had had enough! It’s true, as much as he hates to admit it, Josh was quite oblivious to Abby’s early admiration. Even when Abby managed to acquire Josh’s phone number, send him a text and ask if he would like to get a drink, he still didn’t seem to get the message because he said "he was sick"!!
Finally, however, a few weeks later we did have our first date which ended with our first kiss on the deck at Centerboard Yacht Club. Sparks flew, fireworks went off, the moon looked bigger in the sky, the stars were all glistening, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah…All jokes aside, we knew at that moment that this was the start of something truly amazing.
Fast forward a few years later to the week of October 6th, 2023. Josh had been planning a trip to Newport, RI, aka. Abby’s Happy Place, where he was going to pop the question. Abby had other plans. ...
We were going to spend the long weekend staying at Abby’s uncle, Chuck’s house. Josh had planned a sunset cruise as well as a fancy dinner in Newport but he obviously couldn’t tell her because that would ruin the surprise. After all this planning and sneaking around the one thing Josh couldn’t control was Abby flip-flopping on whether to go or not...ultimately deciding we should stay local. The night before they were originally supposed to leave, she realizes she can't pass up a trip to her Happy Place. When she calls Chuck just to confirm we realized how truly sought after Chuck's house was because someone snagged it up! Whoops!
You can imagine how Josh was feeling at this point but he did the only thing that he could do, he made a tee time.
Friday, October 6th Abby and Josh drove up to Bridgton Highlands Golf Club for a day of golf. It would be there, on the 18th green, after Josh made Abby putt out her slightly outside gimme range putt for double and with a little help from the awesome single we got paired with Justin, that Josh surprised Abby by getting on one knee and asking her to marry him. And she said YES!!
We hope you enjoyed reading our story and we can't wait to see you all in October!!
