Abby and Eric met each other in the last place they would have ever thought they would find their soulmate, a dating app. A friend suggested to Eric to try Catholic Match but he would laugh it off and say it wasn't for him. After years of avoiding dating apps, God would have the final laugh! After almost a year of giving it chance, Eric sent one final message to a lovely lady who caught his eye. Eric told himself this would be his last message before moving off the app. Abby's profile gave detailed information of her love for Christ and His Church. Eric became really intrigued by a beautiful picture of Abby with a religious sister yet having her profile also have a picture to show her playful side. This combination of a devout Catholic woman, who can also be silly, made Eric decide to give her a like and send her a message. Abby also fought the idea of giving dating apps a try but told God she would give Him a month. Three weeks later Abby would receive a message from a strikingly handsome man. With Eric's detailed profile of his Catholic faith, sharing he was the Wichita chapter leader for LIFE Runners, love for books on the faith, and conversion story from Protestantism, it was evident that Eric simply wasn't just checking off a list of the must do's of a Catholic but he genuinely had a love for his faith and others. Eric's profile information along with his intentional message made Abby decide to respond to him. This would lead to countless hours of messaging each other and having video chats. The two would later learn only God can make something like this happen. If Eric had given up one message sooner or Abby logged off for good a week earlier, the two would have missed each other.

Love in Unexpected Places

On Abby and Eric's first date Eric wanted to show Abby that he is old fashioned and brought her a bouquet of flowers along with a personal touch by putting a tiny saint of St. Clare in the flowers to show her he remembered St. Clare is her confirmation saint. In return, Abby would send Eric home after their 12-hour date with a box of goodies. Abby knew a way to a man's heart was through his stomach!

The stepping stones 

Abby and Eric would continue to get to know each other talking on the phone or video nearly every day. They would schedule their second date two weeks later after their first. This is where Eric wanted to become more exclusive and become an official couple. On February 16, 2024, the two would take the next step in their relationship and Abby would receive a rosary on behalf of her "yes" to Eric.

As Abby and Eric continued to date, they would continue to learn just how compatible they were for each other. While dating each other Eric cherished all the great moments they had with each other, but it would be during Eric's most difficult time of his life where he knew Abby was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. On July 30, 2024, Eric's father Jose would pass away after a long battle with leukemia. Abby would take time off work to drive across the state of Kansas to Sublette, Eric's hometown, in order to support him and his family. Along with the death of his father, Eric also sustained a work injury where he had torn his rotator cuff. From the grievance of losing his father and being in constant physical pain, Eric was uncertain how Abby would respond to him when he was at his worst. Despite the difficulties the circumstances caused in their time together, Abby lovingly stood by his side. After weeks of planning, Eric would propose to Abby on September 21, 2024 at Holy Name of Jesus Parish. The proposal was in front of the statue of Mary where Eric would explain to Abby why it was a special spot. Eric shared at the end of their first date when they had gone to Mass, Abby was scheduled to lector. As Abby read the scripture readings at Mass with the statue of Mary behind her, Eric had an encounter with Mary. It was as if Mary was revealing to Eric who he would get married to by saying, "this is her." With tears nearly coming down his face, Eric tried his best to compose himself. The following week Abby would share with Eric that a lady from Church was curious as to who "the handsome man" with her was. She noticed the way he looked at her when she was lectoring was "so sweet!" Eric at the time brushed it off and just chuckled simply saying he thought it was cool the gal he was with a date on was lectoring, little did Abby know that Eric experienced something more than just feeling honored to date a gal who lectored during their date! After Eric shared with Abby what he actually experienced when he looked at her so sweetly, Abby shared she always wanted to be proposed to in a church.

Abby and Eric would continue to grow in love for each other during their engagement. As Eric's circumstances with his health worsened and their future home getting broken into the night before Eric officially moved in, it seemed to them as if life didn't stop throwing challenges at them. But their love and faith in God carried them through these events and have brought them closer. The Lord permits bad things to happen only to bring about a greater good. While the evil one is doing his best to stir up what good and holy thing is to come, Abby and Eric continue to rely on the Lord and remember the battle is already won. But they need your help along the way! Please pray for us as we navigate through these challenges and prepare for marriage. We are blessed to have you all as part of our story!
