Our Story

A Wink and a Smile

Picture of A Wink and a Smile

In the fall of 2021, Sam and Abby felt their online dating journey could be at a close. However, on November 20 Sam sent a smile through Christian Mingle. Though Abby didn't instantly respond, she later found the notification...and the rest is history!

---

For nearly a year, Sam and Abby conversed back and forth, but their schedules couldn't align to meet until Sam's fall break in 2022. In October, at Faith West's Apartments, Abby and Sam saw each other for the first time. Although his travels were long, he had still stopped to purchase flowers and chocolate for her. Before he returned to Nebraska, Sam asked the second biggest question in a relationship--"Are we making it official?"

We did!

Two years flew by, the distance became easier and more difficult all at once. Their daily prayers brought clarity and the peace they felt together showed them this was it.

On October 18, 2024, Sam walked with Abby down a path at West Lafayette's Celery Bog, where they previously walked in 2022, and pulled her to the side to get down on one knee. The leaves were hues of yellow, gold, and red. The ground was a painting of color. The wind and shining sun streamed through the treetops when Sam asked the most important question in a relationship--"Will you marry me?"

YES!

After tears, smiles, and pictures the night was finished with beverages from Cafe Literato--the first restaurant they ate at together--and a party filled with family and close friends at dinner.

So much can start with a smile! Abby's motto in high school was "Smile and Love"; you could often see those words scrolled on any sheet of paper. Now on June 21, 2025, Abby and Sam both embark to start a life full of memories, fellowship...and smiles.
