The most iconic visitor attractions in La Crosse are the bluffs and the Mississippi River. To get to the top of Grandad Bluff, go past the church where our wedding will be held, wind your way up Bliss Road, take a hard right at the Alpine Inn and proceed to the city park at the very end. From there you can look over the city, the Mississippi River and see well into Minnesota. If you make one detour this weekend, it should be to the top of Grandad Bluff!
Hikers and mountain bikers will find a well designed network of trails perfect for exploring the natural beauty of the bluff.
If all this has made you thirsty, stop by the Alpine for a cold one on your way down.
Our reception venue is on the site where the La Crosse, the Black and the Mississippi River all come together, so you can’t miss the city’s other main attraction! Feel free to walk through Riverside Park and definitely plan to spend a few minutes wandering through the Rotary International Friendship Gardens that surround The Hatchery. The Friendship Gardens celebrate the sister city relationships La Crosse has with eight, highly diverse, countries around the globe.
The Hatchery and Riverside Park are close to La Crosse’s downtown, which features a wide variety of eating and drinking establishments. One of Abby’s favorite breakfast/coffee spots is Free Range on Third Street. Abby’s dad is a fan of Turtle Stack Brewery on Second Street and any ice cream lover will quickly recommend The Pearl, on, appropriately enough, Pearl Street. Also appropriately named, Pearl Street Books (just up the street from the ice cream), a cute used book store.
Golfers will find a variety of public courses, pickleball players will enjoy the courts by the Trane All Abilities park and those who want to explore the city by bicycle can easily rent a bike from one of several bike share stands.
If you’re looking for indoor activities, La Crosse has two bowling alleys, or you may want to browse through the public library where Abby was first inspired to grow up to be a teen librarian.
