Ashburn is located in Loudoun County, Virginia. Loudoun County is the heart of Virginia wine country and has a number of great vineyards, wineries, and breweries. For breweries, Lost Rhino, Vanish, and Old Ox are all great choices. Two of our favorite places for wine are Bluemont Vineyard and Quattro Goomba's Winery. There are over 40 wine and tasting rooms in the county!
Love history? Loudoun County is home to several historical sites. Check out historic downtown Leesburg and the Balls Bluff Battlefield. Bull Run Battlefield is about 30 minutes away in Manassas, and Antietam is about an hour away in Maryland. It's also a short drive to get to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, site of John Brown's famous raid and a beautiful, small town with a lot of character. It's also where the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers meet and has great hiking and breathtaking views. The Udvar-Hazy Center, located not too far from the Dulles Airport, is a must-see to learn more about human space flight, World War II aviation, and more.
Of course there are also the great activities in Washington D.C.! All of the Smithsonian museums are free to the public, and the memorials on the Mall are a must-see if you come into town. Additionally, Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, is only about 20 minutes south of D.C.
