Our Story

How We Met

Picture of How We Met

On October 18, 2014, Jessica and I went to the Kip Moore concert at Coyote Joes in Charlotte, NC. It was football season, so the Tennessee game was on the TVs. While walking around during the concert, I passed a guy wearing a Tennessee jersey, hat, and arm band. Of course I said, "GO VOLS!" and the conversation continued from there. I gave Jon my phone number that evening and we went our separate ways.

Monday morning I told Jessica I was disappointed that I hadn't heard from "that guy at the concert". Another day went by and Jon finally texted me! Surprisingly, with his not-so-great memory, he remembered everything I shared about myself a few nights prior. We attempted to meet up at various Panthers tailgates but the timing wasn't working out.

Finally, we set an official date to watch a Tennessee game together at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille in Charlotte. From that time on, we continued hanging out every weekend either in Charlotte or Hickory, where Jon lives. We stayed very busy with football games and concerts, but no matter what it was we were up to that weekend, we loved spending every minute of it together. It's never a dull moment with Jon!

The past year and a half together has been full of love and adventure, and we can't wait for what the future has in store for us!!

Our Engagement

Picture of Our Engagement

The weekend of April 28, 2016, Jon and his best friend, Chance, were suppose to run a half marathon in Nashville, TN, and of course Abby was driving them and tagging along. However, the logistics of the trip couldn't be worked out. We already had the days off of work so we still wanted to take advantage of it, so we decided to take a mini vacation to Savannah, Georgia where neither of us had been in many years.

Jon planned all of the details of where we were staying eating etc throughout the weekend. If you know Abby, you know this made her very anxious as she doesn't go-with-the-flow very easily. Thankfully, the garden home we stayed in couldn't have been more perfect!

Friday morning, Jon told Abby they had brunch reservations at a very nice restaurant. In fact, it was so nice, Jon wanted to wear his suit! Of course Abby was running behind, so Jon "called" the restaurant to push back our reservation. Little did Abby know, he faked the call. Once the Uber arrived, Jon asked the driver to drop us off at Forsyth Park so we could walk through it to get to the restaurant. This park is a tourist attraction and where Forrest Gump was filmed. As we walked through the entrance of the park, we took a selfie with the fountain in the background. Little did Abby know, a photographer was taking pictures of the selfie. When we got to the fountain, Jon suggested we throw in some coins and make a wish. As we threw in the coins, Jon dropped to one knee and proposed to Abby!!! She obviously said "YES!" and was in total disbelief.

There hadn't been a brunch planned, but the photographer that Jon hired brought the most important part of brunch- champagne and OJ. Jon knew if he had promised Abby brunch, she better get mimosas!

We spent the rest of the morning calling family and friends to share the amazing news!!

Abby couldn't believe Jon went up to Tennessee to ask her parents the Tuesday before the engagement without her knowing! It spoke volumes for the type of man Jon is :)
