Abigail & Caleb

July 13, 2024 • Newton, IA

Long story short, we were set up by our dads.

I (Abigail) am kind of kidding and kind of not. One day, my dad came upstairs from work and told me that he had given my number to the dad of the man he had been telling me about throughout the summer. I felt awkward about it, but I had told him he could do that if he wanted to about a month earlier. I didn't expect anything to come of it, but about a week later, Caleb Townsend called.

Caleb asked if I wanted to get coffee with him, but unfortunately, I was leaving for college in Ohio the next morning. He asked if I would be okay if he called me a couple of times throughout the semester and I said yes not thinking anything would come of it. I mean, why would it?

True to his word, Caleb called about a week later and then again a week after that. We continued calling each week and feelings began to develop.

THE FIRST MEET

After a month and a half of calling, Caleb asked if he could come to Ohio to visit me. He was going to visit his grandpa with his dad on the way up in Indiana, but I was shocked and excited that he wanted to make the 9-hour trek to meet me. I was a bundle of nerves that day, but we had a delightful time talking and enjoying being in each other's presence. We packed our day with hiking, eating, getting coffee, walking around Barnes and Noble, and meeting my friends. He even wrote me a song. ;) I couldn't have asked for a better 10-hour first date hehe.

DATING

After our first date, I wanted to see Caleb again so I went out on a limb and invited him to come to a cousin's wedding in St Louis with my family. Caleb said yes and I am still amazed at his bravery of driving 5 hours to St Louis with the dad, mom, and little sister of the girl he liked but wasn't dating yet. This weekend was once again wonderful AND he passed my little sister's interrogation (impressive). We made our relationship official during the reception of my cousin's wedding! This began an exciting time of getting to know each other even more deeply and being intentional with our conversations. Our affection and love grew for each other as we considered what the Lord had for our future together.

On March 2nd, Caleb asked me to marry him by my family's pond. The weather was beautiful and we were simply enjoying being together when Caleb popped the question. It was an easy yes and I will forever cherish this memory in my heart. This is just the beginning of our adventure and I am thankful for the Lord's faithfulness through it all!
