Our Wedding

AIR TRAVEL

Denver International Airport (DEN)

Distance to Vail: 2.5 Hours Denver International Airport is a very large airport. You will be able to find flights on any airline at any time from any city into Denver.

Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE)

Distance to Vail: 45 Minutes While Eagle County Regional Airport is closer to Vail, it has a limited flight schedule. Additionally, flights into Eagle tend to be more expensive than flights into Denver.

Ground Transportation

Please plan on renting a car or booking a shuttle from DEN or EGE to Vail. Ubers and Lyfts tend not to be reliable to get you to the mountains and are sparse in Vail. Once in Vail, the Town of Vail has very good, free public buses that run all day and night. These buses will be able to take you anywhere in town. Additionally, most restaurants are within walking distance from the hotels and Donovan Pavilion is accessible by bus. Vail also has a very good Taxi service since ride shares are so limited. Hotels

Grand Hyatt

If you are unable to book the room type you desire, call (970) 306-0139 and the hotel should be able to assist you. Tell them you are booking for the Armstrong-Lafferty Wedding (Group Code: G-LAFF) and you will be added to our block. If you would like to stay elsewhere: there several hotels in Vail at many different price points. Any hotels in Vail, Lionshead, or West Vail are easily accessible and close to restaurants and shops in town. There are also several AirBnB's and VRBO's in the area if that is more your style.

Travel

Below are some ideas on things to do if you are coming just for the weekend or if you plan to make more of a vacation out of this trip. If you plan on spending a few extra days exploring the mountains of Colorado and all they have to offer, we would recommend coming in the week before our wedding as opposed to staying a few days after. After September 8th, the mountains enter into shoulder season and many activities and businesses start to shut down.

Explore Vail Village

Shopping

Vail Village has several fun boutiques to wander through. Some of our favorites include Gorsuch, Kemosabe, Grey Salt, and Perch. We also always find ourselves stopping into Vail Village Arts and the Gib Singleton Gallery. It's easy to spend an afternoon window shopping and meandering through the village. The Vail Farmers' Market and Art Show will be happening Sunday the 8th from 9:30am to 3:30pm in Vail Village. <a href="https://www.vailfarmersmarket.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.vailfarmersmarket.com/</a>

Dining

It's hard to go wrong in Vail when it comes to dining. Some of our favorite restaurants in Vail are The Red Lion, they have some of the best nachos in town, Sweet Basil for Italian, and Bully Ranch for a really good burger. If you're in the mood for Mexican food, Los Amigos is good (a fun fact: Dan's mom worked here for a winter after college) and Pazzo's Pizza is great for something casual. We also love Mountain Standard for upscale mountain American and a great view of Gore Creek! Over our wedding weekend, Lionshead Village will be throwing an Oktoberfest celebration. Explore Beaver Creek Village

Beaver Creek Village is a 15 minute drive from Vail and has plenty to offer. Beaver Creek Village is smaller than Vail and has much of the same quaint mountain town charm. Some of our favorite shops to meander through are the Horton Fine Art Gallery, Karen's home decor, and Beaver Creek Sports. Wandering around Beaver Creek Village is another great way to spend an afternoon.

Some of our favorite restaurants in Beaver Creek are The Dusty Boot for anything casual, Blue Moose Pizza, and The Golden Eagle for slightly elevated American. It is also really fun to sit on the patio of the Park Hyatt and have a cocktail and watch the mountain bikers and hikers come down the mountain at the end of the day.

Outdoor Activities

Hiking & Mountain Biking

During the summer months, the ski mountains of Vail and Beaver Creek are open for hiking and mountain biking adventures. Our favorite thing to do is to hike up the mountain and then ride the lift or gondola down (they let you ride down for free!). If you would rather mountain bike, you can rent mountain bikes from Vail or Beaver Creek directly. Fly Fishing

You could spend your morning learning how to fly fish with a great guide from Gore Creek Fly Fisherman. We love catching rainbow trout and getting to spend time in nature when we are in Vail. Adventure Sports

White Water Rafting The water will likely be pretty low, but a nice float on the river (or a white water hike, as we like to call it) could be a lovely way to spend part of your day. Schedule

How did a Florida boy and a Colorado girl fall in love, you may ask...

Well, they were friends first.

Abi and Dan met through their college ministry, Wesley House, at SMU. They were in the same small group, same college organizations, and even some of the same classes for a year and a half before dating.

Then they went on a date...

And then the world shut down.

The photo above was taken on March 21, 2020, two days before Abi and Dan's one-month anniversary. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Abi and Dan were 3,000 miles and 2 time zones apart for 100 consecutive days. Nothing says romance like a Zoom movie night.

Reunited and it felt so good!

Not long after, Abi and Dan graduated and then graduated again. 

And since then have had so many adventures!

With the best adventure yet to come!

What is the attire for the wedding?

Cocktail attire. We politely request a cocktail dress for ladies and a coat and tie for gentlemen. Our ceremony will be outdoors, but the weather should be comfortable without an additional layer. Our reception will be indoors, so no need for an additional layer for that, either!

What is the attire for the rehearsal dinner and welcome party?

Upscale casual. We request a sundress, casual dress, or slacks for women and slacks, dark denim, and a long sleeve button-down for men, sport coat optional. Please refrain from wearing shorts, light-washed denim, or golf polo shirts. Please also note that the doors in the space will be open to the outside and during the event. Temperatures tend to drop quickly once the sun goes down in the fall in Colorado. Please bring an additional layer accordingly.

Can I bring my kids? What about a plus-one? 

We love your children, but due to space restrictions, we cannot accommodate guests under the age of 18 on our wedding day. Please refer to your invitation for individuals who are invited to our wedding.

Will there be a shuttle from the Hotel to the Donovan Pavilion?

Yes! We will have shuttles from the Grand Hyatt to the Donovan Pavilion and back the day of our wedding. The first shuttle will be departing the Grand Hyatt at 3:45pm. Return shuttles will begin running at 10:35pm. If you prefer to drive, there is ample parking at the venue.

Will there be a shuttle from the hotel to Splendido at the Chateau?

Yes! We will have shuttles from the Grand Hyatt to Splendido at the Chateau and back for the Rehearsal Dinner and Welcome Party. The first shuttle will be departing from the Grand Hyatt at 4:40pm for the Rehearsal Dinner. A second shuttle will depart at 4:50pm. The first shuttle will be departing from the Grand Hyatt at 7:40pm for the Welcome Party. A second shuttle will depart at 7:50pm. Return shuttles will begin running at 10pm. If you prefer to drive, there is valet available at Splendido.

How far is the ceremony venue from the reception venue?

Our ceremony and reception will be held at the same location!

Can I use my phone to take photos during the ceremony? 

We can’t wait to tie the knot in front of our favorite people! We hope that you can enjoy this special moment with us camera-free, so please, no photos until our ceremony conclusion. We have 2 experienced photographers capturing our day so we kindly request an unplugged ceremony. We will happily share our professional images with you after the wedding!
