Abigail and Logan met during a bible study at Charter Oak Church. After a few games of spoons, studying the Word, and going to Applebees, Abby sat in the car with Michelle and Cait. Michelle had originally suggested that Cait go out with Logan, but she was like, “He’s not really my type.” But Abby, who had seen him speeding away in his loud truck, said he is definitely HER type, she would most certainly go out with him. And Cait got to work setting them up.
The first time they met, Logan had noticed Abby through the night staring at him way too many times to be a coincidence. After telling him how wonderful it was to meet him (for the third time) Logan began to wonder about Abby. When he received the message from Cait about Abby, he knew that his intuition was correct. Then, he waited for approximately three days for Abby to text him back.
The next day, Abby returned to school in Kentucky, thinking that she would never see Logan again. But, to her surprise, Cait had stayed true to her word, and she realized that Logan had been trying to get in contact with her over social media, which she had deleted previously. When she was able, she saw that Logan had sent her a video sporting a cowboy outfit, asking her for her number. “This is either a really romantic hallmark movie moment…or really creepy,” she thought to herself. She decided to take a chance and gave him her number.
Over the next four months, they texted and called each other nearly every day for hours. Abby’s roommates were surprised that she would stay up until midnight to talk to him, when she went to bed around 9pm religiously.
Unsure of this long distance situation, Abby told her roommates that she was unable to tell if he was too weird to take her or just weird enough. Her roommates, Kaia and Hannah, convinced her to at least give him three dates- three chances to see if he was just the right amount of weird. They could clearly see that she loved talking to him, that he made her laugh, and that she lit up in conversation with or about him. She was enamored with his goofy personality and his love for the Lord, which they were able to share in their many conversations. She promised her friends that she would give him three dates.
When Abby came home for her spring break, she was dying to spend time with Logan. And Logan shared this feeling! - specifically over ice cream. While out on a walk with her friends Shara and Julia, Abby mentioned that Logan had reached out to her to go on an ice cream date. “But I don’t want to leave you guys here,” she had said. But Shara and Julia encouraged her to go and give it a chance while she could!
Although Abby might not have known it, Logan had been planning for months in advance, and for their next date, he wanted to take her to dinner and a movie to see Jesus Revolution and to visit one of his favorite restaurants. (Which later became one of her favorite restaurants as well.) As Abby and Logan began to spend more time together, they began to realize that they loved each others’ company, but were dreading when Abby would eventually have to go back to Kentucky. So, to make the most of their time together, they found that it was best to share in their everyday moments together. Logan would work on his tractors, and she would come along, being there when he had to get work done. This became a habit of theirs that helped them to spend more time together when they could. And they began to have more and more fun together.
From that point forward, they began to fall more and more in love until on December 31, 2023, Logan took Abby on a hike. She was unsure as to why they were going to go hiking in the pouring rain, but as Logan drove the truck up the mountain, the scenery around them transformed into a winter wonderland. When they finally reached the top and found themselves alone, Logan knelt down on one knee, looked at Abby, and pulled out… a ring pop? After a laugh, Logan reached into his pocket and pulled out the real engagement ring and asked her to marry him. Of course, the only answer Abigail had was yes.
To their family and friends, Abby and Logan’s story is one that inspires us to remember that although we can search far and wide for the things that we want, sometimes the most hidden treasures are right in our backyard, in our hometowns, right where we were all along. Abby and Logan cannot wait to continue their story, no matter where the journey takes them.
