They met for the first time on the first day of grade nine, at S.C.I.T.S. Their lockers were a few down from one another and Abi can remember Colin’s bold first day fashion choice of salmon coloured shorts. They had their first class together, so they were introduced pretty much immediately. That’s about when Colin started his infatuation with Abi (he’ll deny it, but it’s true). Years go by, they hangout in the same circle as friends and still chat often at their lockers. Grade 12 comes along… Colin gets his license. Abi has always had to walk or hitch a ride to school due to living in the area, so she picks up on the new opportunity. “What are the odds you’ll drive me home?” She asks. It becomes a daily ask, and the simple rides around the corner become hanging out after school. Their first date was at a fry truck under the bridge, where one of their teachers in front of them in line had forgot his wallet, so Colin stepped up and offered to pay for him (Abi is still convinced it was a plant to make him look good). Time goes by and they get closer the more they hangout. There was a moment where Abi said to one of her now bridesmaids, Kristen, that she thought she “might be starting to really like Colin Eyre.” Kristen’s unfiltered response was “really??”, with a perplexed emotion on her face. They were dating by January of 2016, went to prom together that year, graduated together, and went on to Lambton College together. A couple different spurts of long distance and years of entirely opposite schedules went by, and they bought and moved into their first home in the spring of 2021. Accompanied by a very tiny roommate, Rufus the chihuahua-who Colin might love just as much as he loves Abi, whether he’ll admit it or not. Nine years later, little high school Abi and Colin are starting the rest of forever together. 🙂💗
