What is a menhdi/ pithi?

Mehndi, otherwise known as henna, is a paste associated with positive spirits and good luck. Indian Wedding tradition calls for a Mehndi ceremony to be held the night before the wedding as a way of wishing the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her journey on to marriage. Pithi ceremony is an occasion, where loved ones wish well to the couple by rubbing the pithi paste, made out of chickpea flour, turmeric, rose water, etc onto bride and groom’s face and arms. The paste is considered an excellent cleanser. The ceremony was a lot of fun with friends and family adding their mustard oil and eggs twist to the ritual.
