What is the dress code for the wedding Mass?
Our wedding Mass will take place at a Traditional Latin Mass parish, therefore we ask our guests to please dress modestly. This means formal wear that is not revealing.
Where do we park for the wedding Mass?
St. Clement Parish is located in the Lowertown region of downtown Ottawa, so street parking is limited. There are some parking spots on site, however the best place to park would be at De La Salle High School located down the street from the parish.
Is there parking at the reception venue?
Yes, to the right of the building, there are some parking spaces available. There is also a lot behind the building (beside the pool), as well as parking spaces at the Starbucks.
What is a Latin Mass?
The ceremony itself will consist of a wedding service, followed by an older form of the Catholic Mass that was universally celebrated until 1969, shortly after the Second Vatican Council. Three notable differences are the language, the order of events, and the music.
1. Language: The Mass is celebrated in Latin, which to this day remains the official language of the Catholic Church. The use of Latin throughout the Church signifies her unity, a sign we think is deeply appropriate for a Nuptial Mass.
2. Order of Events: The exchange of vows is the first event to take place and is followed immediately by the Mass, so that the first act of the newly married couple is to participate in the uninterrupted Mass and to receive the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith.
3. Music: The music is Gregorian chant, which the Church has always considered to be an especially appropriate form of music for the Mass. "In order that the faithful may more actively participate in divine worship, let them be made once more to sing the Gregorian Chant" (Pope Pius XI, On Divine Worship, 1928). Gregorian Chant traces its origin to the music of the ancient Temple; Our Lord sang His prayer in tones remarkably similar.
