Why Vimy Lounge?
As implied by the name, our venue is WWII themed. There are model planes hanging from the ceiling and a museum down the hall.
Obviously, this is odd. Please rest assured we did not purposely seek out a war-themed venue. But we love it all the same.
I (Meghan) was the one that found Vimy Lounge. It's not advertised as a wedding venue. Memorial Hall, which is next to the Lounge, is. But it was white, dreary and looked devoid of life. Vimy Lounge, on the other hand, is full of colour.
The first thing I saw in the photo was a yellow plane hanging from the ceiling and I immediately messaged Addi about the "plane hall." I was so excited about the planes. He was excited about the planes. I don't really know how to explain that model planes are fun and cool besides stating the obvious; model plans are fun and cool.
It also reminds me of happy memories from my childhood. We went to a lot of family events in small-town church halls. This place reminds me of that - cozy, warm, lived-in. I like the frumpiness of a faded brown. It feels like community.
In the end, it is simply a space for us to be together. We just want to eat and dance with our family and friends. And I think this will be a great place to do that.
