Our story is one that starts with second graders, a broken collar bone, and a two hour car ride. Our first interaction was serving with kids at the church both of us joined in summer 2021. Addison started with 1st graders, and Daniel with 3rd graders. One year in, Addison moved up with the kids in her class to 2nd grade, while Daniel decided to drop back to 2nd grade as well. This is where our first interactions began, Addison leading a 2nd grade girls class at church, and Daniel in the same ministry leading a 2nd grade boys class. The first semester we both knew each other by name, but the second semester our relationship started to progress. Addison will say that Daniel took it slow, but that she knew he was interested because he always made a point to sit by her at leader meetings. Daniel was interested, but shy, moving slowly. The day our relationship really started to shift was an evening Mother- Son event for the 2nd graders we both volunteered at. We helped with setup and running activities, but really we spent most of the evening talking, flirting, and generally getting to know each other. Among the conversations had that evening, Addison mentioned that her favorite scone flavor was lavender. That evening Daniel went home and looked up a recipe for those scones, and ordered lavender to make them. The next day Daniel broke his collar bone sprinting at the end of a 10K. While this delayed the making of lavender scones, it did lead to the next event that jump started our relationship. Daniel, with his arm in a sling, was not supposed to drive any more than a short distance. This led to a problem when the 2nd grade leaders retreat was taking place 2 hours away. This led Daniel to send a message in the leader group chat, asking if anyone else could give him a ride. Cut to Addison, sitting playing a game with friends, who looks at a message on her phone. Her friends then proceed to ask what the look on her face means, as another friend from the 2nd grade leaders group (who happened to know of Addison's interest in a certain Daniel) texts her asking if she saw the group message. Addison then takes the bold step, and texts the number Daniel put in the message, beginning a long series of texts that has not ended to this day. Daniel and Addison spent the entire two hour drive both ways getting to know each other, in addition to being inseparable the two days of the retreat. The next weekend at Church, Daniel made Addison lavender scones, and then asked her on a date. That first date led to another, at which Daniel told Addison he was "Obsessed" with her while having a picnic on a little lawn at the Dallas Arboretum. Seven months later on the same little lawn, Addison said yes to Daniel's excited proposal, marking the beginning of their wonderful engagement.
