Adela & Thomas: A Love Story Grounded in Yoga and the Sea

Adela and Thomas’s love story began not with a grand gesture but with quiet, shared moments on their yoga mats. They met during yoga teacher training in April 2023, each seeking mental clarity and holistic healing. Both had discovered yoga about six months earlier, drawn to its ability to restore balance and peace during challenging times.

Entering teacher training, they were focused on self-growth, not romance. But fate had other plans. From the start, Adela and Thomas found themselves paired together in group work, where they shared snacks, laughter, and meaningful conversations. Adela affectionately called Thomas her "number buddy" since their spots were next to each other in the class lineup—he was number 7, and she was number 8.

Four weeks into training, Thomas worked up the courage to ask Adela out on what he thought was a date. Adela, however, was blissfully unaware it was anything more than two friends hanging out. The misunderstanding didn’t last long, as the evening turned into an honest and vulnerable conversation about their pasts. The connection they felt was undeniable.

During their first date, a high school friend called Thomas, reminding him he still had a plus-one for a wedding in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, the following weekend. Without hesitation, Thomas invited Adela on their second “date.” Her immediate reply was, “You’re taking me to the beach?” It was a response Thomas would come to treasure—Adela has always been a resounding "yes" to anything involving the ocean.

The weekend at Wrightsville Beach was unforgettable, beginning with an unexpected bonding experience. On the drive down, they stopped for a work meeting Thomas had scheduled at a timber mill. While Thomas stepped inside, Adela took Gus, Thomas’s dog, for a walk. When she returned, she accidentally locked Gus—and the car keys—in the car. As the North Carolina sun beat down, Adela panicked, imagining the worst for her new furry friend. But Thomas stayed calm and reassured her that everything would be fine. Together, they handled the situation, and for Adela, it was a defining moment. It was the first time she saw Thomas as her rock—a trusted ally she could depend on.

Later that weekend, Adela and Thomas attended the wedding at the Carolina Yacht Club. Thomas was captivated by Adela’s connection to the ocean. She gazed at the waves with reverence, stepping into the cold water as though returning home. Thomas saw her true essence in those moments—a woman grounded in nature and spirituality. That evening, under the stars and surrounded by the joy of the celebration, Thomas confessed his feelings to Adela. He told her he wanted her by his side, always. Adela felt the same, and their love story officially began.

The Carolina Yacht Club, where their love was solidified, holds a special place in their hearts. It’s where they will return to say their vows and celebrate their wedding, creating another unforgettable chapter in their story.

The drive back to Charlotte marked the end of their magical weekend, but it was also the beginning of their new reality. They had found their soulmates in one another.

Over time, their bond deepened through shared joys and challenges. They leaned on each other during life’s trials, always choosing love, patience, and understanding. Together, they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where they’ve built a life filled with purpose and adventure.

Adela and Thomas credit their love to God, believing their connection is a divine gift. Spirituality is the cornerstone of their relationship, and they thank God daily for bringing them together. As they continue their journey, they are reminded that love—like yoga—is a practice of patience, presence, and trust.

Their story began on the mat but has flourished in the waves of life, proving that love can be as steady as the earth and as boundless as the sea.
