If you're coming in from out of town and need ways to fill your time, here are a few suggestions:
Atlanta boasts the largest aquarium (by water volume) in the country. They have whales, sharks, octopi, jellyfish, and many other sea dwelling critters. Tickets are a bit steep, but well worth it.
If you're looking for something for Friday night, look no further than Northside Tavern. Located in the Westside, Northside Tavern has been a holy site of the Atlanta Blues scene for over 40 years. Live music every night, $10 cover after 9:30, music starts at 10:00 and ends late. It's one of our favorite places, but bear in mind, it's a dive. Don't wear your good shoes and maybe have a Gatorade on your night stand for the morning.
Ponce City Market is a gem within the city of Atlanta. Come shop with local artisans, grab a bite to eat, drink craft beers or cocktails at PCM, located in the old Sears-Roebuck building. After lunch checkout Skyline Park located on the rooftop of Ponce City
Market. Skyline Park is a cheery place for games, rides & mini golf, plus beer & snacks.
If you're not feeling up for rides then check out the Atlanta Beltline, only steps away from Ponce City Market. The Beltline is a walking and biking path that runs through Atlanta. Follow the path to Piedmont Park, Krog Street Market, or any number of breweries, bars, and restaurants that line the path. Maybe even enjoy a nice homemade popsicle from our local King of Pops popsicle vendor.
Atlanta is the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and has memorialized his life and his mission by preserving key historical sites over 35 acres, creating the MLK Jr National Historical Park. Tour Ebenezer Baptist Church where he and his father both ministered, visit his childhood home down the street, and spend time in the museum learning about his life and his historic efforts. Within this national Park you will find the grave sites of both MLK Jr and his wife, civil rights activist Coretta Scott King. Come pay homage to two key civil rights activists and leaders who made it their life's mission to make the world a better place.
Located in the heart of Midtown, Politan Row is a talent-driven food hall in the Colony Square. Get ramen, tacos, or a number of other options from the counter serve vendors, pop into the IPIC Theatre for a movie, or get something more substantial from one of the fine restaurants, such as Rumi's Persian, which is a local legend that recently moved to this area.
Best Burger in Atlanta, hands down. Everything from a class burger to a heaping monstrosity aptly named the Quadruple Coronary Bypass. The original location is in the Little Five Points neighborhood, but their midtown location is the one we frequent. (+21 up only)
Our favorite brewery in town. Great beer, good people. Located in a repurposed industrial building called The Works. Next to the taproom you can find food at Fox Bros BBQ or almost anything else you could want (sushi, ramen, cheesesteaks, hibachi, pizza etc) in the food court called the Chattahoochee Food Works.
