Kyle's version:
I had just started my first grad year at Western Kentucky University in 2020, which was only an hour drive from our alma mater, Kentucky Wesleyan College. Soon after, I saw on Facebook that Addie had recently started working back at KWC. After hearing enough about her from friends, I decided to reach out to her through social media. Our first attempt at dating was unsuccessful, so I had to go back to the drawing board. A year later I re-entered Addie’s life through a random text about Nebraska baseball (she was in Fort Wayne and I was still in Kentucky). From there, I had to figure out how to break out of the friend zone. After waiting too many months, I decided to shoot my shot once again and she finally agreed to date. A year of long-distance dating came and went as I finished Physical Therapy school and I finally ended up moving to Fort Wayne in 2023.
More time passed, and in May 2024 we decided to go out to Utah for a quick weekend getaway. After sneaking her grandmother’s ring around at the airport and surviving multiple hikes, I finally got down on a knee to pop the question
Addie's version:
After graduating (during COVID) with my masters from the University of Nebraska in 2020, I was lucky enough to land a job back at Kentucky Wesleyan College (when most other colleges were under hiring freezes). A few months later a random guy messaged me on Instagram about my new job at KWC. The strange thing was I was friends or classmates with all of the other KWC baseball players on his feed but had never run into Kyle on our massive 800-student campus.
Come to find out he worked most of our home basketball games my senior year…even more odd we never met, I know. To add to that, COVID times were weird, Kyle and I hung out a few times, then I moved away from Owensboro. Kyle and I drifted apart. Fast forward a year and this guy texts me again, making fun of Nebraska baseball...
We were pen pals, neither person having a reason to drive down to Bowling Green or up to Fort Wayne. But his great sense of humor and improved phone conversation skills (lots of weird pauses at first) slowly won me over. He randomly asked why we weren’t dating and I said I didn’t know…so we started dating and never stopped.
I’ve always loved Kyle’s humor, patience, spontaneity, willingness to take risks, and laid-back attitude. I give him credit for us ending up together and can’t wait for a lifetime of funny stories :)
