Adoree: my first year leading a small group in college campus ministry was two years ago. I had been told that the second week of schools was a big involvement fair that all the small group leaders volunteered at to recruit attendees. As I attempted to persuade my little sister to join a group I was aided by a helpful young man named “Jeremy”. Who interestingly enough was in my major tow years ahead, the same class as my roommates brother. I took note; cute Bible major. For a friend 😉
*fast-forward… two months*
Midterms approach and my third semester of Greek was tough! I looked to schedule a tutoring appointment through the peer tutoring program. And I recognized the name “Jeremy Gieske” so I scheduled an appointment!
Little did I know that we would talk less about Greek than Bible translation and the great need for missionaries to go and translate.
*a few random conversations in the BTS later*
I was leaving an extremely moving foreign film about this man who left everything to go teach these children in a remote village… right outside the BTS was Jeremy, we talked about missions and the importance for somebody to go!!! One more time.
With my friend Emma and my little sister Kiana he asked if I’d like to “get lunch at Chucks sometime”
*lunch went well…*
Our “lunch” was Nov 13th but our first date was not until Jan 26th. We took a couple months to get to know each other and officially became a couple in March 16th with my Fathers permission.
*May*
Jeremy was about to graduate- and move to the Adirondack mountains in NewYork for a pastoral internship. I was staying at school to do May-term. After the term finished I flew up to Ny to visit him at work. I was quite impressed.
*July*
I came home to WA for the summer, we didn’t know what long distance would look like but we made it work. After the full month of June apart I was determined. I would find a way to get this man to marry me. 😂
It only took 5 months to convince him! lol, I didn’t want to tell him until I knew he was agrees so I waited until he brought it up. We were engaged after Christmas this December… and Can’t wait until July 12th when my wish from last July will finally come true!!!
