Once upon a time, Adrian and Ragan both decided to attend a small private university in South Carolina. Little did they know that they would soon meet the love of their lives…sorta. Adrian and Ragan started their college careers in two very different circles. Never did they think that the two would cross on a random beach in Charleston. During freshman year, both Adrian and Ragan’s friend groups decided to go on a day trip to the beach. Once the awkward introductions were over, Ragan and her boyfriend at the time and Adrian with his girlfriend decided to separate from the friend groups and explore the city. That led to more double dates and bonding between the four of them.
Summer came around and Ragan was no longer in her relationship. Since she was already friends with Adrian and his girlfriend, she continued to hang out with them the rest of sophomore year. This included going out to eat, sitting in coffee shops working on homework, and carpooling to church. Yes, she was the third wheel that whole time. Because of some changes in friends and situations, Ragan stopped hanging out with them as much at the end of sophomore year. This was around the time that Adrian decided not to go back to Bob Jones that fall and instead decided to play baseball at a different school in Pennsylvania.
Adrian never thought he would see or talk to anyone from Bob Jones again. That is… until Adrian decided to return to Bob Jones after only one semester away.
Then, in January, Ragan was at her first day of essential science class (ew) and was standing in line for her syllabus. She looked over at the door right as Adrian walked by. Shocked, she yelled at him and the two spoke for the first time in 8 months. Other than this meeting, Adrian and Ragan only spoke about 2-3 times a week, which consisted of asking who was going to drive to church that Sunday or small group on Wednesday.
A little while later, Adrian was finally single. Just about every one who knew them started to bring Ragan up, although Adrian had never seen her as more than a friend up until this point, so he just shrugged them off. The two decided one night to hang out and catch up on the past year since they really had not talked about their personal lives that whole time. During this time, they started talking about what they really look for in their future person. Ragan even read a list she had made on her phone years prior. To Adrian’s surprise, it sounded a lot like him…
Adrain then started to think more about the probability of Ragan and him being a thing, but he had been friends with her for years and did not want to make things awkward. The two both realized how easy it was to just be themselves around each other. At the end of that week, Adrian asked Ragan if she had ever thought about the idea of them being a thing. To Adrian’s surprise, again, she said yes. After that conversation, the two decided to remain friends until the end of the summer, just to see if this was the real thing.
Adrian soon left to Ocean City, MD and Ragan went back to Illinois. They spent the summer working through different work schedules to Facetime or call for just a little bit. They really got to know each other, and by the end of the summer, they knew that this could be the real deal. The two got back to Greenville in August and it was like they never left. Two days later, Adrian asked Ragan to be his girlfriend, and four days after that, they said they loved each other on the bank of a little lake in Greenville.
The school year went on as normal. Adrian was president of two organizations on campus and Ragan was trying to stay above water with all the projects her major required of her. Senior year was pretty busy, to say the least. By the second semester, they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. This meant that hints and mentions of a ring started to come up. Ragan was clueless the whole time Adrian was coming up with a way to get the ring and drop to a knee.
May came around and the two walked across a stage and received their diplomas. Celebrations and pictures came in a whirlwind afterward. Adrian then mentioned the idea of going to their little lake to take pictures. Ragan knew a ring would be showing up soon, but since Adrian’s little brother Gabriel was coming along, she dismissed the idea. The two (and Gabriel) took pictures along the lake to again show their achievement of graduating. Adrian then dropped to a knee, and Ragan did not even wait for him to finish asking anything before saying “YES!” The rest of the weekend was spent in celebration with friends and family.
Normally this is where we put a big “THE END,” however, this is only the start of the rest of our lives!
