Questions & Answers

What should I wear?

Please wear cocktail attire. Recognizing that “cocktail attire” is a bit nondescript, what we’re really trying to get at is that we’d like for you to wear something nice, but also comfortable. The wedding is being held outside in August, so there’s a good chance we’ll be in for a hot summer’s day. The wedding party will be dressed formally (all in the name of getting some great pictures), but in all likelihood will be shedding some of the layers of their tuxedos as the night progresses. The bridesmaids’ dresses are slate-grey. In case it gets cool in the evening, you may also want to consider bringing a light sweater for later!

Shoes

Given that we’re hosting the wedding in a backyard, sensible footwear is a must. Much of the yard is grass (kudos to our ragtag landscaping squad for such a lush lawn), and parts of the lawn are sloped. If you plan on wearing heels, they must be block heels and relatively low.

Where should I sleep?

We have a block of rooms booked at the Ramada Inn, a short drive from the Fanjoy house. Please visit the Accommodations page of our website for additional details.

Where should I park?

We highly encourage all of our guests to take an Uber or cab to and from the wedding. There is relatively little street parking available, and it goes without saying that nobody should be drinking and driving. For those who do elect to drive, there is some street parking nearby.

How will I get home?

Multiple taxi companies have assured us that there will be no trouble at all securing cabs to come out to Manotick once our guests are ready to make their way home. Uber is also a great option to consider!

What’s the deal with dinner?

We are having a cocktail-style reception rather than a seated dinner service. This means that rather than being assigned a seat at a table and served a traditional dinner, we will instead be milling about around communal cocktail and banquet tables, being served passed canapés by the waitstaff. In addition to the passed canapés (served between 5:00 and 6:30), there will also be food stations to take advantage of in-between bites. Our caterers have assured us that there will be more than enough food to substitute a traditional dinner for all of our guests, so expect to eat your fill!

What is the bar situation?

There will be an open bar serving select beers, wine, mixed drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, and a signature cocktail.

Will there be any changes due to COVID?

We will be observing all provincial restrictions that are in place at the time of the wedding. If this impacts the number of guests that are able to be in attendance at our wedding, we will contact all those affected directly.

Is there an alternate rain plan?

In the event of bad weather, rather than having both the wedding ceremony and reception at the Fanjoy home, we’ll instead have the ceremony at the local United Church nearby and then return to the house for the reception. Any changes to this effect will be communicated directly to our guests the day of the wedding.

What time should I arrive?

Guests should aim to arrive at 3:30 pm. The wedding ceremony will begin promptly at 4:00 - we ask that our guests please be seated by this time.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We will have a professional photographer hired to take photos during the wedding ceremony, and ask that all the rest of our guests please keep their phones turned off and tucked away during this portion of the evening. After that though, we highly encourage you to take plenty of pictures throughout the evening. There will also be disposable camera available and we encourage everyone to use them! We will develop the cameras after the wedding and will share them with everyone.

What should I do if I can’t make it?

You will be missed! If you cannot make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no” so that we can plan accordingly.
