Our Wedding

In August of 2016, Seamus arrived uncharacteristically early to a Thai restaurant in a central Kampala for a first date with Agueda.&nbsp;Agueda was initially skeptical of the handsome and debonair American, but Seamus was eventually able to win her over with his “dance skills”, midwestern charm, and rugged masculine presence that many have compared to an early 2000s Russell Crowe.&nbsp;Agueda on the other hand was able to find her way to Seamus’ heart through her compassion for others, commitment to human rights, and spectacular Peruvian/Italian cooking skills.&nbsp;&nbsp; They both remained together for the next few years, despite spending over a year working on different continents (Seamus in South Sudan and Agueda in Myanmar), but made time for long conversations and several memorable vacations together.&nbsp;During that time, they realized they didn’t always agree on the small things (punctuality, cleanliness, quality of Hallmark movies), but they were in lock step on the important things and shared the same values and vision for their future family. They soon found themselves falling deeply in love in with each other.&nbsp;&nbsp; On January 1st, 2021, after spending the Christmas holiday together in Nairobi, Seamus proposed, and Agueda said yes (albeit after some convincing).&nbsp; While they wanted to get married in South Sudan (the place they were then working), they ended up having a small civil ceremony together on September 12th, 2021, and then welcomed their son Jose Denis into their lives on Dec. 2nd, 2021.&nbsp;Now in 2025, after returning to Peru, they are excited to be married in the Catholic Church and celebrate this long-awaited date with friends and family. --------------------------------------------Historia de Agueda y Seamus En agosto de 2016, Seamus llegó inusualmente temprano a un restaurante tailandés en el centro de Kampala para su primera cita con Agueda. Al principio, Agueda se mostró escéptica ante el atractivo y elegante estadounidense, pero Seamus finalmente logró conquistarla con su talento para el baile, su encanto del medio oeste y su robusta presencia masculina, que muchos han comparado con la de Russell Crowe de principios de la década del 2000. Águeda, por otro lado, logró conquistar el corazón de Seamus gracias a su compasión por los demás, su compromiso con los derechos humanos y sus espectaculares habilidades culinarias peruanas e italianas. Ambos permanecieron juntos durante los siguientes años, a pesar de pasar más de un año trabajando en continentes diferentes (Seamus en Sudán del Sur y Agueda en Myanmar), pero siempre hicieron tiempo para sostener largas conversaciones y varias vacaciones memorables juntos. Durante ese tiempo, se dieron cuenta de que, aunque no siempre coincidían en las cosas pequeñas (puntualidad, limpieza, calidad de las películas Hallmark), si lo hacían en cosas importantes, asimismo ellos compartían los mismos valores y la misma visión para su futura familia. Pronto se enamoraron profundamente el uno del otro. El 1 de enero de 2021, después de pasar las vacaciones de Navidad juntos en Nairobi, Seamus le propuso matrimonio a Agueda y ella aceptó (aunque después de un tiempo de convencimiento…). Aunque querían casarse en Sudán del Sur (el lugar donde trabajaban en ese entonces), terminaron teniendo una pequeña ceremonia civil juntos el 12 de septiembre de 2021 y luego le dieron la bienvenida a su hijo José Denis a sus vidas el 2 de diciembre de 2021. Ahora en 2025, después de regresar a Perú, están emocionados de casarse religiosamente en la Iglesia Católica y celebrar esta fecha tan esperada con amistades y familiares.

TAXISWhile SATELITAL and UBER (Comfort) are reliable/safe taxi apps, never have your guard down! Please sit down behind the driver and do not take out your cellphone or any valued item if any of your windows are opened (place your backpack under your legs). There have been some robberies by people on motorcycles (or walking while there is traffic) who snatch your cell phone.Upon arrival to the airport, ignore anyone saying "taxi" or "official airport taxi driver". Ignore any small talk anyone you don't know tries to make like "where are you from?" "welcome to Peru" or things of this nature. Unfortunately, there are scammers in Lima. They prey on foreigners who just pitched and don't know the country or the language.We highly recommend you that you organise your ride inside the airport, e.g. you can use TAXI GREEN.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY IN LIMAWhile you will find several more things that you would love, crossing the street in Lima can be a bit nerve-racking as many drivers don't stopped at crosswalks. Therefore, you need to be vigilant and cautious. One can’t assume in Lima that as a pedestrian you have the right of way. Don’t assume that because the light is red a car will stop for it or because you’re in a crosswalk you don’t need to have an eye on the traffic. As anywhere it’s a good idea to make eye contact with drivers to be sure they’ve seen you. Also, watch out for bicycles/motorcycle/scooter drivers- they are even more unpredictable and at times you can find even them in the pavement.

NEVER HANG YOUR PURSE ON THE BACK OF YOUR CHAIR in a public place. A thief can sit right behind you and within seconds s/he can get your purse and leave the place. E.g. This has happened even in fancy restaurants.
