“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”
-John Muir
On June 5th, 2025 we eloped in the Keweenaw Peninsula at the Hungarian Falls.
This entire experience was so surreal for us. We hiked through the root-filled trails and towering trees, looking in astonishment as we approached the cascading waterfall. We connected ourselves in the moment with a grounding meditation and shared our personal vows with each other. We embraced the mist-filled air, lush vegetation, and rocky outcroppings as we made our commitment to each other.
After our ceremony, we commemorated with a private dinner and cozy fire at Hunter's Point - enjoying some of the most incredible food either of us had ever tasted. Korean Pasty’s were one of our appetizers - absolutely blew us away and such a creative idea by our chef!
We soaked in the calmness of Lake Superior and searched through the vast array of rocks below our feet to collect the ones that caught our eyes.
On our way home, we met with Dad, Mom, and Grandma Doody. They had planned a wonderful, low-key wedding shower for us that evening. We added even more to celebrate when we told them all about the elopement and together took a first look at our wedding photo gallery. We were so elated to have this evening with them - sharing in laughter, stories, and love together.
We wanted to find a way to celebrate our relationship in the most meaningful way possible to us. In a way that honored who we truly are as a couple.
We wanted to be surrounded by nature, embracing the fresh air and freedom of being in the forest. We wanted to keep our wedding intimate and focused on what our relationship is truly about.
Our goal was for this moment to be a truly special experience of us wandering in the dense woods together, enveloping ourselves in the pine tree air, honoring our love in the freshness of a waterfall, and making a personal commitment to cherishing our future together. We are very much looking forward to having a ceremony and reception in September to celebrate with our loved ones :)
We want to extend a huge thank you to our loved ones. Thank you to Justin and Maya for taking care of our cats so we could make this all happen.
Thank you to Mom, Dad, and Grandma Doody for celebrating with us afterwards - for your support and kindness.
And of course thank you to the rest of our family and friends for caring so much about us and surrounding us with love.
We cannot end this story without giving a huge thank you to Andrea Brandt at Lume Photography and Liz Martin at Wholesome Habitats. We also want to thank our private chef, Jenny, and our baker, Elaine.
Andrea was incredible to work with on planning out this entire experience. She explored spots in the Upper Peninsula for us, gave us advice and tips on how to prepare for our elopement, and did an amazing job capturing the entire day of our experience. Andrea was so enthusiastic on giving us the exact ceremony we were looking for.
Liz was magnificent at coordinating and planning out our private beach dinner. She arranged our private chef and baker for us. She set up this gorgeous space for us that blew us away when we walked down to the beach. Her husband, Dan, was so easy-going and fun to be around too - we’re really glad we got to spend time getting to know them all!
All these people in the U.P. came together and gave us the perfect wedding. We cannot express enough how much we appreciate them and how lucky we were to have this dream team. People who will forever be a part of our story :)
