Imagine this: it’s the last few weeks of 8th grade and I’m feeling like hot shit about to be a highschooler. One day my best friend at the time said we will be meeting her boyfriend, and Jake enters my life. My first impression? Well, let’s just say I’m hyper protective of my friends. I was skeptical to say the least. Who is this guy, and will he be worthy of her? Turns out she wasn’t worthy of him. After allowing Jake to meld into our friend group she cheats on him right in front of me. I gave her 3 days to tell Jake, or I was going to. So I ended up telling Jake and we have been best friends since.

At some point during my college years Jake and I drifted apart. He was still present at every Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we just didn’t talk as much. Until I went to a party at Ty’s house, and we haven’t gone more than a few days without talking since. Everything came right back as if the past 6 years of distance had never happened.

Fast forward not even 2 years and we moved in together. Shortly after we started playing a game. There’s a 20 sided dice used in D&D called a d20. In the game, if you roll a 20 it’s a big deal. So the joke began that if Jake rolled a 20 we would get married. The rules were it would only count if he declared the roll to be for the marriage, not just a roll in the game, and he could only roll for it once a day. At some point it stopped being a joke and became a real game with real potential results. While enjoying a Christmas evening with family on December 25, 2022, it finally happened. Jake rolled a 20. Slowly the whole room started to realize what happened as Jake had the most dumbfounded look on his face. And just like that, with an uproar from our family, we were engaged. This time it stuck.

I’m lucky, so lucky, he never gave up and never left my life. Happy to be spending happily ever after with you my love. It took us a long time, but we got here.
