Our story started seven years ago. Albert was finishing his summer internship and Yanyan had just graduated college in San Diego. We magically matched through an online dating app, but in the end, a mutual friend, Jessica, brought us together.

Jessica found out that Yanyan was talking to an “Albert”, who she actually went to Chinese school with during high school. Albert had reached out to Jessica when she was visiting one weekend in San Diego and invited her to his party. With permission, Jessica brought three other friends including Yanyan to Albert’s party. Albert, already 10 shots in at midnight, came to take us into his apartment. Unbeknownst to him, Yanyan greeted herself to him and was immediately taken aback and realized that she was the girl he had been talking to on the app. That night we fell for each other and the rest was history.

We did long distance for four years while Yanyan was in dental school in Denver and Albert was starting his career working in San Diego. Even with the long distance, we were able to grow stronger as a couple, traveling the world, exploring new food places, and playing video games. In order for us to finally be together, Albert made a difficult decision to move to Denver. Two years and two dogs later, we both thought it was a good time to start a new chapter of our lives together.

The one thing Yanyan asked for the proposal is for it to be a surprise. Albert is a terrible liar and had a challenging time planning the perfect proposal. Yanyan easily sniffed out his sunset beach proposal, which Albert had to change at the last minute. Labor day weekend, we went on a beautiful hike. At the top of the lake Albert popped the question and didn't even get to finish his speech he prepared! She said yes (obviously) and totally caught her off guard with the whole proposal! She thought we were just going out for a hike with our dog and a couple friends, but it turned into something we'll never forget!
