WHERE WE MET

We met and became great friends during our Freshman year at Lake Zurich High School in 2005.&nbsp; We stayed close friends throughout high school and college.&nbsp; Alex attended Illinois State University and Rick attended Augustana College.&nbsp; Both of us were aspiring educators and coaches, which led us both back to LZHS.&nbsp; Alex started coaching softball and Rick started coaching football and baseball for the Bears - and then it all started.













 













OUR FIRST DATE













Our first date was May 13th, 2017 at Alex's apartment in Chicago.&nbsp; We walked down the street to the store to pick out our favorite candy and a movie from the Redbox.&nbsp; The movie was Patriot's Day and is still one of our all time favorite movies.













 













OUR JOURNEY













Our journey together could be perfectly summed up by our love of adventure.&nbsp; Our appreciation and love for nature and traveling together showed us very quickly that we were a perfect match.&nbsp; Our first trip together was a two week road trip across the Midwest.&nbsp; We drove all over South Dakota - through the Black Hills, over to Mount&nbsp;Rushmore and plenty of hikes in Badlands National Park.&nbsp; We then drove south and spent a few days in Colorado with our friends for the 4th of July week.&nbsp;&nbsp;













Our next trip was driven by our love of history.&nbsp; We spent a week exploring Boston, Massachusetts. We made sure to catch a game at legendary Fenway Park and we enjoyed it so much that we instantly bought tickets to another game later in the week.&nbsp; We hit every stop on the Freedom Trail - the Old North Church, Paul Revere's House, Boston Commons, Bunker Hill/USS Constitution, Old City Hall (Site of the infamous Boston Massacre), the Boston Tea Party Ship, and many more!&nbsp; We also discovered that we were the only people in Boston and did NOT like the famous Canoli's.&nbsp; We also fell in love with the Ghost and Graveyards bus tour, visiting all the cemeteries around Boston and listening to the tales of the past.







The following summer, we decided to take on a new adventure - moving in together.&nbsp; This major&nbsp;transition in our lives could not have gone smoother.&nbsp; Suddenly, Rick's laundry was not being done by his mother and Alex has never watched so many sporting events in her life. Everybody wins!







Shortly after we moved in together, we both had independent vacations with some close friends.&nbsp; First, Alex went to Punta Cana with her friend and Bridesmaid Jess Rogers in celebration of earning their Master's Degrees.&nbsp; They spent a relaxing week on the beach, while also taking time to go Zip Lining and Snorkeling.&nbsp; Two weeks after Alex's trip, Rick joined two of his Groomsmen, Jim Sandberg and John Crook, for hiking trip in Switzerland.&nbsp; Team Swiss went all over Switzerland, experiencing some of the major cities&nbsp;and most of the Swiss Alps. On the way back home, they were also able to spend a day in London and two days exploring Iceland.





Finally reunited, and it was time to plan another trip! This time: MAINE.&nbsp; A Lord Family Wedding was on deck and we went up a week early to get a jump start on the celebration - and to appease Alex's appetite for Lobster!&nbsp; We spent some time in the cities of Portland and Bar Harbor, but we were fixated on Acadia National Park.&nbsp; We spent a couple days driving through the park, while getting out for&nbsp;hiking, biking, and swimming!&nbsp; It was the perfect way to start the week before heading to Rangeley for Michael and Sarah's wedding!

Tom is my older brother and Best Man.&nbsp; Our lives growing up together revolved around sports and competing in everything, and it brought the best out of both of us.&nbsp; Tom is always down for a round of golf or a&nbsp;&nbsp;Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks/Ohio State game!

Pat is my younger brother and one of my Best Men.&nbsp; He is one of the funniest and most genuine person I know.&nbsp; He is the baby of the family, and likewise, he runs the show.&nbsp; Pat also enjoys watching sports as much as humanly possible.

Augie Baseball #20Ben has been a close friend of mine since freshman year of college.&nbsp; We were both Pitchers and spent many hours in the bullpen pulling pranks, scheming how to get out of running and dominating on the mound. 2013 Academic All American.

Augie Baseball #8 - Team Swiss #8Jim has been a close friend of mine since freshman year of college. Jim was our Catcher and never grew frustrated with my inability to see his signs.&nbsp; I guess not seeing signs isn't as frustrating as Ben spiking 8 straight fastballs in the dirt right&nbsp;at Jim's chest.&nbsp; Jim and I were roommates during and after college and across the world.

Augie Baseball #41 - Team Swiss #41John and I met in college at Augustana - it was his freshman year and my sophomore year.&nbsp; John was a Catcher and was always a part of the bullpen fun.&nbsp; John and I have gone on numerous trips together, most notably Switzerland.&nbsp; He is one of the most selfless people I know.

Molly is my oldest sister. Molly and I first went from being just sisters to best&nbsp;friends when I would go over to her apartment every Thursday for dinner and Grey's Anatomy.&nbsp;Molly is also a teacher and the amazing mother of Poppy and Wes.&nbsp;She has always been a role model for me and one of my favorite people to&nbsp;hang out with.&nbsp;







Kelsie Modig - Matron of Honor







Kelsie is also one of my older sisters. Kelsie used to call me on her way home from class when she was at ISU and I would do the&nbsp;same when I attended ISU. Still to this day, we often find ourselves talking and laughing&nbsp;for over hours.&nbsp;Kelsie has been a huge help planning the wedding and is the amazing mother of Cora and JP. She is some one I greatly look up to and one of my best friends.&nbsp; 







Danielle Weinrauch - Maid of Honor







Danielle and I met in 8th grade where&nbsp;we discovered how much we both love to goof off on the volleyball team. We were then&nbsp;joined at the hip all through high school. Even though we went to different colleges, our friendship never dwindled. We then lived together in the city for 4 amazing years.&nbsp;Danielle has been my rock through all the ups and downs in life and I have been blessed to have been able to call her my best friend for the past 10 years.&nbsp; Maddie Block - Bridesmaid


Maddie is another one of my older sisters and the closest to me in age. Maddie and I were always together growing up and even shared a room for years.Where ever Maddie was, I was always close behind.&nbsp;Maddie has quite the green thumb and beautiful gardens, hopefully she will be able to help me with my garden one day.&nbsp;







Rachel Brown - Bridesmaid 







Rachel joined our group of friends freshman year of high school. We bonded at countless sleepovers and&nbsp;our complete lack of dance skills. Rachel and I really grew close when we became roommates after college. We had two years of slumber&nbsp;parties where we cooked together and stayed up late talking about anything and everything.&nbsp;&nbsp;







Jessica Rogers - Bridesmaid







I met Jess on the first day of new teacher training only to discover we had&nbsp;been attending the same school since middle school. We survived our first few years of teaching together and bonded over our love of country music and the Packers. We then helped each other get our Master's and celebrated by lounging the in sun in Punta Cana. Don't tell Rick, but Jess is probably the funniest person I&nbsp;know.&nbsp;







Addie Sedoff - Bridesmaid







Addie is my younger cousin. Over the past 5 or so years,&nbsp;Addie and I have been getting closer and closer. She has come to visit me a few times now and we have had so much fun eating sushi,&nbsp;kayaking on&nbsp;the Chicago River, and ice skating at Wrigley Field. I'm hoping we still &nbsp;have our regular Facetimes while she is studying abroad in New Zealand this semester. Addie is probably the coolest person I know.&nbsp; 







Arie Longobardi - Bridesmaid







Arie and I met my freshman year at ISU, where our dorm rooms were right next to each other. We then spent the next three years laughing as much as possible with each other. Even though Arie now lives in San Diego,&nbsp;when we are able to connect it's like no time has past at all. Arie is the most beautiful person both inside and out.&nbsp;

Tim and Pat have really taken the brother role very seriously for me and have not missed an opportunity to tease me. They also have my back no matter what and I know I can always rely on them whenever I need them. They are also terrific dad's to my wonderful nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Grant transferred to Augie our Junior year&nbsp;and instantly fit right in.&nbsp; He's got a great sense of humor and work ethic - two traits that&nbsp;make him an excellent&nbsp;teacher!&nbsp; He is also the best defensive 1st Baseman that I have ever played with.



Dr. David Balzer Augie Baseball #26Dave is a great friend and and a natural leader.&nbsp; He has put in a ton of work into&nbsp;his profession and has earned everything his has now.&nbsp; Dave is an incredibly adventurous person and always down for some fun!
