March 9, 2020, Alex walked into her first day at a new job, shook hands with her new manager, Connor,
unaware she was meeting her future husband. Connor was the quiet type; head down, focused on work,
determined to make his team #1. He preferred spreadsheets to small talk, coffee breaks to chit chat. But when Alex started working at Autopay, something shifted.
She was many things Connor wasn’t- social butterfly, outspoken, assertive, and was always ready to with
a comeback. He first noticed her in the training class – Connor was the teacher and Alex was the
student. However, coming from a competitor, Alex made sure to challenge everything Connor said.
Connor was taken back by her “spitfire” characteristics. Two weeks later, Alex landed on Connors sales
team.
As conversations enhanced, Connor and Alex realized they have more in common than anticipated.
While this was an employee/ employer relationship, things had to stay on the down low. Questions
turned from, “can you send me this report” to “do you want to go on a hike?” Amidst many team happy
hours and long days at the office, they could only hide it for so long.
Four months later, the fourth of July rolls around; Connor asked Alex to go on a spur of the moment trip
to Jackson Hole with his sister Bre and brother-in-law Chris. Little did she know, this would be Connors
true determinate for a future together. Alex said yes, and off they went on an adventure filled weekend
mountain biking, white water rafting, camping, and storytelling around the fire. It was that weekend
Connor knew she was the one. It was after this trip they announced their relationship at work, Alex
moved off Connors sales team, and they continued to flourish and grow their relationship.
And just like that, the office that had once been the backdrop to their professional lives became the
place where the real story began. They aren’t the same people who had met in the training room, but
they were exactly where they were meant to be. Together.
