We met at the beginning of February 2019 at the Kwik Trip on Black Avenue in Eau Claire. I (Lexi) had recently moved back home from Minnesota in September of 2018 and this was the only Kwik Trip that had a full time position available in the entire Chippewa Valley District. Little did I know, this happened to be the Kwik Trip near Alex's parents house and also one of the Kwik Trip's that Alex plowed snow at over the winter months.
After getting to know each other over a few days, we decided to go out on a date at the Sand Bar in Chippewa, and yes, Alex took me out in his plow truck. From there, we spent quite a bit of time together and friends turned into boyfriend & girlfriend at the beginning of April 2019, after Alex asked twice. (The first time he asked, I said no; I was positive he was playing a joke on me).
In June 2019, we got a crazy & wildly adorable black lab named Maverick that lived with me until we moved in together in November 2019. We have traveled quite a bit between Yellowstone National Park, Fort Lauderdale, various spots in northern MN, northern WI, northern MI going camping or snowmobiling, Nashville, Grand Forks, and Alaska this summer the year before our wedding. Maverick and Henry got a little brother (spunky & goofy black lab) in July 2021 named Brooks. They are all the best of friends.
On December 4th 2021, We were headed out to go ice fishing on Monday Lake up near Alex’s family cabin, but the warm weather had caused some of the ice to melt and it wasn't thick enough for us to stay out. Alex had asked me to help him check the ice thickness out near the hole to confirm that it was not thick enough to stay out, and once I got out there he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
The best part of this story, is that when we got back into the truck off of the lake, and were talking about what had just happened, we realized they accidentally called 911 and the dispatcher was yelling at us through the phone. When I answered the phone I let them know everybody was okay and that it was a mistake and the dispatcher was happy to hear that and also said "Congratulations on the engagement by the way, the phone was on for a few minutes!" while laughing. Truly something we will not forget.
