Whether you want a relaxing vacation or a trip of adventure, you will be able to find what you are looking for.
Are you planning on joining us early?! Well we are renting out a giant yacht for a sunset booze cruise and ocean adventure! On Wednesday before the wedding (which is on Friday) we are doing a 4 hour sunset cruise with drinks, ceviche, chips, salsa, ocean toys, and a heck of a time!
We are kindly asking that if you would like to join, please RSVP and it will be $100 per person but everything is covered. Just show up at the designated pickup spot at the right time, get on the bus and the rest of the night may or may not be a blur (in a good way). We hope you can join but want to ensure you that there is no pressure. We love you anyways :)
I guarantee the beach will be a hotspot for all of us! The beach is well kept and super easy to find. Most of the beach is covered with umbrella and chair rentals. You can rent a spot for the day or a few hours. While you have to pay for the spot, you can often times use that as a credit for food and drinks delivered right to you on the beach. You can also set up a towel on the beach but its likely going to be in a spot that is not as desirable. Regardless, it will be a good time.
If you want a little more privacy, there are plenty of less crowded beaches nearby. These include Playa de los Metros, North Beach, and Carricitos Beach. These beaches may require a little bit of exploration to get to but it is well worth the beauty.
If you cant find us anywhere, you might want to check the surf lineup. We will likely be renting surfboards for the week we are there. There are a number of different surf rental shops with a variety of board conditions. They usually have everything from short boards to huge foamies available, so it's perfect whether you are just learning or a seasoned pro.
There are three breaks within Sayulita. One is a beginner break perfect for someone who wants to learn and the other two can be a little more advanced. We want to warn you that, in typical surf culture fashion, there can be some localism within the lineup. It is always good to be patient, and give respect in order to gain respect.
If you want more surf than what Sayulita has to offer, there are some surf expeditions available. Marea Surf School typically does an afternoon surf trip to the neighbor town of Punta De Mita. This gives you an opportunity to explore nearby towns, try out other breaks, and meet some new people. Alternatively, you can charter a small panga and go on a little surf expedition. Here you can work with your guide to find the best, and least crowded breaks. These charters also leave out of Punta De Mita.
If you want to relax, there are plenty of ways to pamper yourself. Sayulita has plenty of spas and wellness centers. These offer massages, holistic body work, acupuncture and more. After a quick Google search, I also found float therapy, which I have never heard of before. Apparently you float weightless in a soundproof and lightproof warm spa filled with Epsom salts. I've never done this, but I am intrigued!
The last time we went to Sayulita, we went on a private horseback ride. Let it be known that neither of us ride horses in our day to day lives and honestly we were a little scared at first. We told our guide that we had little to no experience so they gave us the old horses that were well mannered and slow moving. We rode from the town square to a remote beach on the northeastern side of town where we were allowed to "let it rip" and gallop in the sand. Despite riding at a slight trot, I felt like I was on Spirit from the Disney classic "Spirit."
There are so many ocean adventures to be had in Sayulita. Fishing charters leave from both Sayulita and Punta De Mita on a daily basis. Alternatively, you can go on a guided tour of Islas Marietas. On this tour, you get to snorkel, check out hidden beach, and enjoy all of the amazing wildlife. (TBH it is pretty commercialized now but was still a great time last time we went).
The "hippie-chic" vibe of Sayulita is a yoga haven. There are yoga studios of all kinds on every street and we would highly recommend taking a class. Last time we were there, we took a class that was meant for surfers. It was great to open up the shoulders and release some tension.
As you know, we are quite the nightlife partiers... as long as we are in bed by 10 pm. But don't worry, the clubs don't close until 4 am! There are plenty of bars and clubs, and the town square is a total party scene. You can find music, dance lessons, and all the margaritas you could want.
