Most of the activity will be centred around Volos and this is where we will be.
However if you would prefer, there are some lovely places further down the coast or over the mountain. Just to be aware it will be more difficult to join us in the evenings!
Alternatively if you are flying to Skiathos this is a great holiday destination and you could pop over on the boat for the wedding dates.
How do I get there?
You can reach Volos via Skiathos or Thessalonika airports.
If you fly to/from Skiathos you will get an approx 1.5hour boat over to Volos. If you fly to/from Thessalonika we can help you arrange a private taxi transfer, or you can get a public bus, with an approx 2.5hour transfer time.
What dates do I need to be there?
The two night stay in Portaria for our wedding is across the 21st-23rd August.
Aside from these dates, join us whenever you would like to! We will likely be in Volos from around 17th-25th August, with plans for all from the Tuesday 19th.
Do I need to organise my own hotel in Portaria?
No, this will be organised for you for the two nights we are in the mountains! Cost will be no more than £200 total per room (2 adults, incl children). Of course if you would rather choose an alternative hotel that’s all good with us.
We will let you know which hotel you have been allocated and your room before the end of June.
What time will the wedding be at?
We will update exact timings closer to the day, however weddings in the summer in Greece do start later due to the heat. Likely start time will be around 5pm
Can I bring my child / children?
We all know you can relax and enjoy yourself more at a wedding without your little ones in tow. However we understand that you may not want to / be able to leave them for this length of time, so they are of course welcome. Gene will be there with bells on!
Do you have a wedding registry / gift list?
We do not, your attendance at our wedding is more than enough. If you did want to offer a gift, a contribution to our honeymoon fund would be all we ask for.
Top tips...
- Make sure you bring some euros in cash, the mountain villages will only take cash in a lot of instances and some taxis/ food places will ask for payment to be made in cash also
- Some places don't have English menus, download the Google app to translate from Greek->English
- Bring mosquito spray
We'll add to this as we go!
