How We Met

Brendan and Alex first met on a sticky summer night in August of 2019. Brendan was posted up at Skylark Lounge (a Denver watering-hole) with one of his friends. Alex strutted into the bar with her high school friend Sara Jo. After a few Malört shots, Brendan and Alex were left alone with a deck of cards. This was the moment when Brendan experienced Alex's relentless competitiveness for the first time. He was also drawn to her pretty eyes, for which she was awarded a trophy in high school. "You have to meet my dog, Calzone." - Brendan"I agree. I have to meet this dog named after a pizza pocket." - Alex"...his name is Cosmo." - Brendan"I love Cosmo's Pizza." - Alex Fast forward 6 months, COVID hit. Their relationship flourished with each other as their only company. The arrival of their rescue pit bull puppy, Bruce, really sealed the deal. They bought a house in the suburbs to fit their growing zoo and Alex's 72 house plants.

Brendan was born in Sydney, Australia on a warm summer night November 8, 1990.&nbsp;He had ten toes &amp; fingers &amp; boy were his parents happy, as they were in the twilight of their 30’s when they welcomed him into the world.&nbsp;As a baby, he slept through the night, what a relief… until about 6 years old and then it was up late and hard to get up for school… he&nbsp;still has this habit. Brendan was an executive premier on United Airlines before he was three years old, traveling back &amp; forth to the States &amp; Europe.&nbsp;When he was three, The Barrys settled in an awesome 2 acre ranchette in Boulder.&nbsp;He thought that he would grow up and inherit that house. Ha ha, tricked him.&nbsp;Brendan was always adventurous and loved playing in the dirt and building things with his diggers. Brendan started skiing at a young age, threatened his parents with the “dark side,” the shredders.&nbsp;He was allowed to start snowboarding at age 10 and grew passionate for filming, and boarding, and filming boarding. He graduated from CU with a BFA. At one point he said he was going to buy an old school bus and travel America filming. His parents were Gobsmacked….but fortunately they led him in another direction. Here he is today a successful businessman and home owner, who has brought to the Barry family a wonderful daughter to love.&nbsp;

About Brendan

Alex was born in Chicago, and raised in the tight-knit community of Park Ridge, IL. With a family home in Michigan and an education from the illustrious University of Illinois (Oskewowow!), Alex is a Midwestern gal through and through...&nbsp;Whoops, strike that!&nbsp;Seven years ago, Alex moved to Colorado. She had no job and no money, but she knew she was home. As a child, Alex ate American Cheese and Miracle Whip sandwiches with gusto. She was afraid to ride roller coasters and didn’t like fireworks...&nbsp;Whoops, strike that!&nbsp;Now Alex is an adventuresome and accomplished cook. She is an Earth lovin' gardener. A composter, a camper, a hiker. An off-the-road Jeep driver. A doggie kissing, national anthem singing&nbsp;snowboarder. And soon to be scuba diver. Alex has a gut-busting laugh with dimples to match. She loves Brendan with all her heart, mind, and soul; and is ready to take on the world with him by her side. He just needs to know his place and never beat her in euchre.&nbsp;

Older sister of the bride. Met at Chicago's Northwestern Women's Hospital where Alex was kicking and screaming. Jessie was the Simba to Alex's Nala when they played Lion King as children. Slytherin and proud of it. 

Jessica Gremer

Younger sister of the bride and designated Captain of the party barge in Pentwater. Bonded over the love of all music, from Alanis Morrisette to String Cheese Incident.  Often mistaken for Alex at Summer Camp Music Festival. Ravenclaw. 

Jaclyn Gremer

Friend of the bride. Met through mutual friends at a party mere weeks before Alex moved to Colorado. Suki made Colorado a home. Bonded over Red Rocks, music festivals, and Salad Tuesdays (a long-standing dinner tradition that includes a few leaves of lettuce and a LOT of adult grape juice). 

Suki Dewitt

Her name isn't Jaclyn, it's Felber. High school friend of the bride. Met jumping over a fence at a party that was getting busted. Navigated the halls of Maine South side by side. On her honeymoon, Felber facetimed Alex to share the sight of the sparkling Eiffel Tower.

Jaclyn Panlilio

Friend of the bride. Met dancing the night away at The Canopy Club while attending U of I together. Bonded over plants, yoga, Elton John, and euchre. Shares the exact same birthday as the bride. It is important to note that Alex is older by a few hours. 

Katie Halstead

Friend of the bride. Met building snowmen in Lindsay's front yard on Courtland Ave circa 1995. Bonded over block parties and books. Made a childhood pact to be bridesmaids in each other's weddings; they both fulfilled this promise. Ravenclaw.

Lindsay Hoffer

The longest running friend of the groom.  Met in Boulder at Jackson’s backyard snowboard park, “Fowler Nation”.  Grew their friendship through their shared passions of snowboarding, skateboarding, fishing, and camping.  Taught Brendan how to do his first backflip, snowboarding in a blizzard at Breckenridge Mountain.

Jackson Fowler

Moments after they met, they both slammed their heads on the ceiling of the Meta Skateboards van while they sped over a set of railroad tracks. Traveled to Korea for a month together to make a skateboard video and drink Power Ups (Powerade + Soju).  Bonded over the love of Ice Hockey and are both die-hard Avs fans.  Go Avs!

Davis Lonergan

Humbly introduced themselves while in the lift line at Mt. Hood, OR.  The next time they met would be filming snowboarding in Winter Park, Colorado which would later turn into footage for Boys Nite.  Fun fact: Jeff is the only friend of Brendan’s who has been allowed to stay more than 2 nights at the Barry household on Paragon Dr.  He stayed for 3 weeks.

Jeff Holce

Became close friends at Winter Wondergrass Bluegrass Festival in 2020 which was unknowingly the last concert Alex and Brendan would attend before the pandemic.  Russ and Brendan accidentally crashed a bachelor party last winter, where they shared a bunk room and snowboarded deep powder on The Cirque at Winter Park.

Friend of the groom. Bonded over Malibu Rum and Farckle at the Secret Saloon. Adventurous and always up for a good time, Ryan is honored to stand by the groom's side on his big day and continue their shared adventures for years to come.

Ryan Arrington

Friend of the Groom. Met at High Cascade Snowboard Camp as counselors where they destroyed campers in dodgeball. Bonded over the love of snowboarding in Colorful Colorado.

Grant Giller

Friend of the bride.  Met swinging hula hoops at a college after party. Spent 1 blissful year living together on Vermont St in Urbana. Bonded over Beyoncé, trips to Colorado (where they would both end up living), and *outfits*

What is there to do in Estes Park?

Absolutely nothing... just kidding. 

RMNP is still leveraging a reservation system in order to enter the park. Press "WEBSITE" below to book a reservation. If you want to visit the park, you must have a timed reservation. Only one reservation per car is needed to enter the park. You will need to have an account with recreation.gov in order to make a reservation; it costs $2 . They release reservation tickets on the first of the month before the month you would like to visit. To clarify, they will release tickets for September 2023 (including days before and after the wedding) on August 1, 2023. Make sure to set a reminder on your calendar to book your reservation on August 1, 2023. If you miss the opportunity to book in advance, they do release more tickets at 5:00PM the night before your visit. You will still need to pay the entrance fee (or bring your annual pass) when you arrive at the park. There are 2 reservation options:1. Access to Bear Lake Road Corridor (enter at Beaver Meadows entrance)2. No Access to Bear Lake Road Corridor (enter at Fall River entrance - across the street from Della Terra)The good hikes are on Bear Lake Road Corridor, so if you plan on hiking, you should try to get that reservation. If you are just looking for a scenic drive through the park, No Access to Bear Lake Road Corridor is the way to go. Both passes give you access to the Alpine Visitor Center. Our favorite hikes include Dream Lake (photo above) and Emerald Lake. If your car allows for it, check out Old Fall River Road (a one-way old service road with incredible views. We have taken the Jeep on this trail several times). You definitely do not want to miss a visit to the Alpine Visitor Center (the highest elevation visitor center in the National Parks System).

Rocky Mountain National Park

Off-Roading (Backbone Adventures for Rentals)

There are several areas to fly or cast in RMNP and/or Estes Park. You can even rent gear from Kirk's if you don't want to lug your gear along with your suitcase. Don't forget to grab a fishing license at Kirk's or any hardware store before dropping a hook in the water. Some areas to consider checking out:- The Big Thompson River runs through the town of Estes Park with several spots to fish. The first mile below the dam is catch and release only, and there are usually a ton of trout there because they can't make it past the dam.- Sprague Lake (located within RMNP)- Mary's Lake (quiet lake ~20 min from town) Press "WEBSITE" below to view rentals/licenses from Kirk's

A bucket-list item for any Stephen King fan. The iconic Stanley Hotel was the inspiration for Stephen King’s&nbsp;The Shining.&nbsp;King stayed here one night, woke up in the middle of the night, and wrote the outline for his classic novel.&nbsp;The Stanley is not nearly as remote as portrayed in the 1980 film,&nbsp;as it is located in downtown Estes Park. The hotel offers themed tours for die-hard fans, but you don't have to take the tour to have a great Stanley experience. Walk through the hedge maze, grab a bourbon (Jack's favorite) at The Whiskey Bar, check out the small museum in the basement, and if you're brave enough, ignore the "Guests Only Beyond This Point" sign, and head upstairs to Room 217.

Gain a bird's-eye view of Estes Park without having to hike! The&nbsp;Estes Park Aerial Tram&nbsp;safely whisks you above the treetops to the summit of Prospect Mountain for just $16 per person.

Tee off at&nbsp;Estes Park's&nbsp;beautiful 9- and&nbsp;18-hole golf courses&nbsp;located alongside Lake&nbsp;Estes. Tee times can be reserved up to 7 days in advance. They also have disc golf!

The Riverwalk is a&nbsp;1 mile&nbsp;section trail that allows you to stroll along the banks of the Big Thompson River as it wanders along the back side of the shops and restaurants. Combining all the charm of downtown (and the resulting easy access to snacks and shops) with all the beauty that people come to Colorado to experience, it’s one of the best places to visit in Estes Park, CO.
