Our Story

Hey y'all, Hannah here! Also happily referred to as "the bride".Alex and I decided to write our story separately to give two perspectives, so here's my favorite fairytale told from my view.Let's start from the very beginning. Alex is 24 and I'm 21. Our parents have been friends for 26 years. Pretty much from birth, Alex and my two older brothers were inseparable. My mom babysat Alex and he and my brothers went to a few summer camps together.Fast forward roughly two years, Alex's sister was born and a few months after her, I was born. His sister and I were as close as our brothers were, and soon our families were living across the street from each other. Not to mention we've also attended the same church all our lives. So you can imagine how much we were together over the years.From the time I was a little girl, I had the biggest crush on Alex and I had no problem making that known. I'm sure if we looked hard enough, my parents probably have me on recording saying Alex would be my husband one day. How prophetic of me.As we got older, I started denying ever having a crush on him and sometimes I would even refer to him as a big brother. I know, ew.I'm not sure who I thought I was fooling. Wasn't my grandma, that's for sure. But that's another story for another time.In 2015, Alex moved to Alabama for college. During the time he was gone, I was pretty confused about my feelings but I did miss him, even if just as a friend. After his first Christmas break back home, he was getting ready to leave again and came over to my house to say bye to my family and I. I knew his favorite dessert was a simple chocolate chip cookie, so I made a huge batch and sent them with him for the road. He texted me hours later once he made it to his dorm thanking me again for the cookies. That's what started our occasional talking over the phone, and I haven't made chocolate chip cookies since without thinking of that time.Fast forward to 2019, several years and many life events later, Alex (FINALLY) shared with me one night after youth service that he liked me. Like, realllly liked me. I was elated. So you know what I did with my excitement? Told him I liked him too and we lived happily ever after, right? Wrong. I told him, and I quote, "I like you too, but I'm not ready to rush into anything serious just yet".I mean seriously, what was I thinking? I wasn't thinking, that's the answer.But in true Alex Pittman fashion, he never gave up pursuing me.From that day until the present, he's been the most patient man I've ever known. Being only a friend if that's what I asked of him, and treating me like a queen no matter how much I made him chase after me. Thankfully I came to my senses, and on February 25th, 2020 he asked me to be his girlfriend. We've been inseparable ever since.Now I get to spend forever with my best friend living out the rest of this fairytale written by God Himself. I'm a blessed girl.

The Boy Across the Street

You miss the things right in front of you. The milk in the middle of the fridge, your phone laying on the counter, your future wife right across the church for 21 years. This is how the girl right across the aisle turned into the woman of my dreams, right under my nose. When we first met, Hannah was being born, and I was barely old enough to think "Wow, look, a baby!" Our families attended the same church, and my parents grew close to the tight knit Lakeside Apostolic family. My sister, Abby, was born the same year, and they became close friends. Before Hurricane Katrina, both of our families built homes and moved into the same neighborhood in Hahnville, Louisiana. There, Hannah, her five siblings, Abby, and myself, would spend the next 15 years playing in the woods, riding bikes, and making a mess of our parent's houses. My childhood feelings for Hannah fluctuated regularly. There is a time in every boy's life when girls become the heart you chase after, instead of the monster with cooties that you run away from. It sort of snuck up on me, and I found Hannah to continually pop up on my "radar." As we developed through our teenage years, I watched a woman blossom out of the curly headed girl who had always been around. We both moved into adulthood, and as time and life can do, we drifted in and out of varying levels of friendship and even lost touch as we went through college and into our careers. Some years after graduating, when I moved back in with my parents, our friendship rekindled. As our friendship grew, it moved outside of our circle of friends and family, and we found ourselves together in smaller, and smaller groups. I found myself flirting with her, trying to get her attention. There was a funny fluttering in my stomach when our seats would happen to end up next to each other. I was falling for Hannah. One night I decided to tell her how I was feeling. Amidst high anxiety and one long, run-together, stuttering sentence, I spilled the beans. I wanted to be more than friends. Eloquently, Hannah responded that she felt like we needed more time to grow as friends, but that we would revisit the idea at a later time. Disappointed, but not ready to quit, I made a note that a revisit would indeed be coming; I wasn't giving up that easy. We continued to grow closer, over weekend group trips to the beach, youth nights at the church, and dinner with each other's family. On we went, in an awkward dance, but soon enough the time had come to "revisit" our previous conversation. If we were going to be more than flirting friends, it was now or never. I scrounged up the nerve to ask her on an actual date. Not only did I find the courage, incredibly, she said yes! I had her on the hook, now I had to start reeling! We were talking nearly every day, and the times when we weren't talking, I felt a strange void. Hannah even bought me my favorite candy to welcome me home from a trip I had taken to Texas. On February 25th, I asked her to officially be my girlfriend, and I haven't looked back since. She has become my closest and best friend, and has been by my side through incredible adventure as well as the difficult times life can bring. As for the rest, well, the rest is our future!
