We first met in 2015 while working for Parks Canada and living at the Addison’s home in Jasper. We quickly became close friends and stayed that way for two years, despite teasing from friends who swore there was something more going on.

That all changed one night when Dani opened up to Alex about the loss of a friend. The way he listened and comforted her flipped a switch, and suddenly our friendship turned into something deeper.

Before we even went on our first “official” date, we bought a van and set off on a five-month adventure through South America. Traveling together is one thing—but traveling, cooking, and sleeping in a van 24/7 is quite the test for a new relationship. Between a few wrong turns, a drive-by shooting, and a stolen van scam, we somehow came out of it stronger.

We then spent some summers apart for work, powered through long-distance, and supported each other through school. Along the way, we discovered how much we love to travel together, exploring South America, Southeast Asia, and Central America.

On March 21st, 2025, while hiking the Acatenango Volcano in Guatemala, Dani was taking in the views when Alex snuck up behind her and “dropped the knee”. Champagne, friends, and an erupting volcano in the background… What's better than this??
