Macie and Alex met their freshman year of college through a Christian organization on campus at UT Tyler. They started talking during their spring semester on a mission trip to South Padre Island and continued getting to know each other the remainder of the school year. That summer Macie was working at Pine Cove while Alex was working at Sky Ranch. He asked her to grab dinner one weekend and then they continued to keep up with each other by writing letters while they were at camp. He asked her out on another date later that summer, but Macie turned him down. The rest of the summer there was little communication while Macie went on a mission trip to Ecuador and Alex remained at camp. When they returned to campus, Alex started to have feelings for Macie again after they began to spend more time with each other and stayed up talking most nights. Labor day weekend, Macie and Alex both went home. This is when Macie started to have feelings for Alex. She found the letter Alex wrote her that summer asking her on a date and returned it, asking if it was "too late to say yes?" That Saturday, September 10, 2022, they went on a date to Piada and made it official that night. Over the next year they met each other's families, had a summer of long distance, and started nursing school together in the fall. The October of 2023, they started talking seriously about marriage. Alex talked to Macie's parents in early November and then popped the question after a road trip to his hometown for Christmas on December 23rd. Since then, they have been tackling nursing school and wedding planning whenever they get the chance.
