Chloe’s POV I met Alex in high school. He was a grade ahead of me, but we orbited the same circle of friends — a group of guys I played sand volleyball with, but we never really paid much attention to each other at the time. After graduation, Alex headed to Mizzou while I stayed back in O’Fallon, taking advantage of two free years at the community college before transferring to Lindenwood. Our paths didn’t cross again for a couple of years, but fate has its own timing. In 2012, one of my friends threw a birthday party and invited Alex. We spent the evening flirting and reconnecting, and before the night ended, he invited me to a party he was throwing at his apartment in Columbia. I went, and he threw a great party.From that night on, we started seeing each other. Alex would drive home to O’Fallon, or I’d make the trip to Mizzou. I drove back and forth so often that my old Mercury Sable broke down, but it was worth every mile. That November, we decided to make it official and we’ve been writing our story ever since. In 2014, Alex got a job offer in San Jose, California, and asked me to come with him. 6 months later, after graduating, I joined him there and we worked for the same company, Ernst &amp; Young. Life was full of new experiences: learning to live with each other, trips to Florida, Colorado, and England, a cruise to Central America, passing CPA exams, and 100 hour work weeks for both of us. By 2018, I started to crave a change from the Bay Area, and we took a month off work to explore new places and dream up our next chapter. We visited Dallas, Austin, Kansas City, Charlotte, Denver — even London. After all that, we chose Denver as our next home. But life had another twist in store: I was offered a dream job just south of San Francisco, and so instead we moved to beautiful Redwood Shores, CA, and enjoyed a couple years of suburban life together. Then came 2020. The pandemic hit, and we both transitioned to working from home. Sharing a two-bedroom space had its challenges, but with quality time being a key love language for both of us, it only drew us closer. After three months of lockdown, I suggested we finally make our move to Denver. Alex, being the cautious one, wanted to wait for more remote work guidance from our companies. So we gave it time, but after about a year I wore him down. In March 2021, we finally took the leap and moved to Denver, and it’s been home ever since. Alex left EY to pursue his dream of helping a biotech startup grow into a public company and gets to spend less hours working (which is my dream for him.) We still work from home most days, which means we share lunch breaks and I get to pop into his day between meetings, which I love. And when he has to work late, our dog Fable and I get to lay on the floor in his office and play, i.e. bother him until he logs off 😅. We’ve chalked up so many adventures over the years. There was a road trip through Ireland with our moms clutching the car handles while Alex bravely mastered driving on the left side of the road. We visited Russia with a friend, where museum docents would flippantly reply to questions with “read a book” or “look on internet.” We’ve spent time in paradise soaking up the sun in Maui. We road-tripped across the U.S., taking Highway 1 down to L.A. and up to Crater Lake, and the long road trip moving from Bay Area to Denver. We’ve explored Colorado’s stunning national and state parks, and wandered through Telluride and Aspen. We’ve made countless drives back home to Missouri, dodging tornadoes and flash floods along the way. We’ve also returned to the UK several times, including a magical trip to Bath, England where Alex proposed. Now, after all these years and adventures, I get to marry my best friend. I am so excited for this next chapter and blessed to share this moment with my family and friends. Hope to see you all in Estes!
