135 Days To Go!

Alex and Alex met just how any Hokies hope to meet their future partners, during happy hour at Sharkey's drinking long islands. Shortly after their first conversation and exchanging numbers (ask Girl Alex how she got Boy Alex's number 😉) they quickly became interested in each other leading to their first Date Party on Valentine's Day weekend one week after they met. Over the next two months, multiple date parties, a week long spring break in Key West, and many more happy hours at Sharkey's, Boy Alex decided that he wanted to start officially "dating" this girl he had become infatuated with. Without giving much thought as to when was the best time to have that conversation, he decided to just blurt it out in the middle of a Tri Delt date party after a handful of tequila shots. The next morning the conversation was brought up again and it was made official (on the same day as the spring football game). Over the final month before graduation that infatuation turned into love and also the realization that they were both moving to different cities after graduation. Girl Alex was planned to move back to Richmond to work in the ER as a Technician and continue her journey to become a Physician Assistant and Boy Alex had accepted a job with Capital One back in DC. Fast forward over the next 6 months. Their relationship had continued to grow to the extent that every weekend they would take turns going back and forth between Richmond and Northern Virginia. Even though both had started working, they spent whatever time they could to visit and be with each other. It was a sign of how much they valued quality time together and shared that sacrifice of travel. But, the constant car rides up and down VA were actually causing significant traffic flow issues on I-95, which we know typically never has traffic. So Boy and Girl, who had been talking and thinking about what to do long-term, decided that they had to cohabitate for the sake of gas prices worldwide and be able to spend the quality time together that they needed. After many back and forth conversations, they came to a compromise that Boy Alex would move to Richmond. Both Alex and Alex were blessed to have all of their parents support them in their decision to move in together and even helped in the search! Girl Alex and her mom, Sheryl, actually toured the apartment that Boy and Girl ended up moving into in Scott's Addition. A few months after moving in together, another potential relationship challenge came their way in the form of COVID. Apart from the world seemingly shutting down overnight, this also meant that Alex and Alex would now be spending close to 24 hours a day together (quite a change from just a few months prior). While many couples can get adverse effects from spending too much time with their significant others, it seemed to have the opposite effect on Alex^2. They filled all their new found time together to pick up hobbies, start making all variety of foods (oreo balls), fun games to play around the apartment, and working out together. Over the next several years, multiple apartments, a puppy(Ellie!), and an entire PA program, Boy Alex finally got on one knee and asked Girl Alex to get engaged and marry him Feb 3, 2024. Since then, they have purchased their first home together in Richmond and can't wait to celebrate their wedding with everybody they love so much!
