Things to do In San Miguel

San Miguel de Allende is a town of approximately

160,500 people, located in central Mexico. High in the

central highlands of México, San Miguel de Allende is

blessed with over 320 days of sunshine and moderate

rainfall, most of it falling during Mexicos summer rainy

seasons. Also known to have a desertic climate, this

unique colonial town has a flavor of its own, whose

many ingredients include cobble stone streets, burros

carrying firewood, painters, photographers, sculptors,

dazzling sunsets, wonderful restaurants, and a town

square thats bursting with mariachis.


San Miguel offers visitors all kinds of activities.

Choose from a week long art class at one of the

numerous local art academies, a ride in a hot air

balloon, a weekend cooking class, Pilates, yoga, Zen

meditation, or cleansing with a shaman. Swim in thermal

waters, spend a day at a spa, or be more adventurous

with mountain biking, four- Wheeling, a ride in a hot air

balloon, or horseback riding and visiting our

archeological zone “La Cañada de la Virgen”


A stroll through town delights the eye with all the

colorfully painted buildings and the many tempting

shops. At dusk, have a cold ''cerveza'' at Los Portales

downtown, enjoy dining at a local restaurant, and then

dance till dawn at one of the lively night spots.

Take a stroll in the heart of downtown San Miguel,

and then enjoy a delicious breakfast at Cumpanio

(located at correo #29).

El Pegaso, at Corregidora #6, is one of the local

favorites, and our personal favorite place to eat

chilquiles rojos!

The Bagel cafe in Correo Street has the best bagels

in the region.

Juan ́s Cafe, located at Relox 37, is another great

option for breakfast or lunch. This Café will give you a

taste of San Miguel itself, and depicts the style and

flavors of this magical city.


Café Muro, located on calle Loreto 10-B, offers a

variety of flavorful typical Mexican snack. If you have a

slight craving for sopes or enchiladas, this is the place to

be.


San Agustin, located on San Francisco #21, is a

famous cafeteria due to its renowned owner, Margarita

Gralia. This restuarant offers a variety of hot chocolate

and churros. But that’s not all, they also have the option

of breakfast, lunch or dinner. Just make sure to go early,

since the place is small and there is always a bit of

waiting time to get a table!

Rincon de Don Tomas is located in the heart of San

Miguel’s square. It’s a great place to sit and chat while

having a cup of coffee, witnessing what San Miguel is all

about.

Café Rama located on Nemesio Diez #7 has great

food with eclectic design and paintings.

Ki’bok Coffee located on Diez de Sollano #25 and

Cuadrante #1.


Also near the Parroquia you will find Ten Ten Pie,

Cuna de Allende #21, located a block from the

Parroquia. This place offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Its terrace and location make it a wonderful option.

After breakfast, you can opt for a swim in one of our

local hot springs. Check out La Gruta or Escondido

Place. Likely for one to be available on every Street,

Taxis are safe and inexpensive. It will be about 15

minutes to get there, and you can tell the driver to pick

you up at a certain time.

Coyote Canyon adventures has amazing

horseback riding. If you like to wake up early, a balloon

ride is always a great idea, to visit La Cañada de la

Virgen is a must.

Walk around and admire our beautiful architecture.

San Miguel is a world heritage site and is looking more

and more beautiful every day.


The weather in May is hot and the rainy season starts

in July. Whether its hot or rainy, you can take your time

and enjoy a refreshing drink in one of the outdoor/indoor

cafes or bars in the center of town.


Visit our markets, where you will enjoy all the color

and the smell of México. Walk the streets of San Miguel,

known as shoppers paradise for inexpensive arts and

crafts. Walk the side streets of the Mercado Allende for

blown glass. La Casa de Vidrio has the largest selection

in town. San Miguel also has wonderful art galleries and

jewelry stores.

Canal, Zacateros, Hernandez Macias, and Correo streets

are a must.


A visit to Fabrica la Aurora with its many galleries

and then Distrito Zoma ( Lupita 3 ), make sure you visit

Munane for a fabulous textile selection from Mexico and

the world, and antiques from France.

Visit the Meson de San Ignacio in Mesones 53 where

you will find Rue Desnuettes (amazing desserts and great

coffee) Maria Brunel textiles from all over the world,

Maria Cabrera the best swimming suits in town, jewelry

and pet shops the building is beautiful do not miss it.


LUNCH


Are you in the mood for some authentic Mexican

food?

La Alborada is a very small and inexpensive restaurant in

Diez de Sollano, where you can fine the best enchiladas

verdes.


Luna de Queso is a vegan restaurant with so many

healthy food options, where you can buy a lot of vegan

products. This store is located at Salida a Celaya, in front

of La Casona hotel.


Pueblo Viejo, located at Umaran #6, has the feel of

an old town and the food is very good. Try the

molcajete, but make sure you are hungry or have

someone to share it with!


Atrio located on Cuna de Allende street has a

fabulous view, amazing food and service. Do not miss


Roberta Vallina’s incredible jewelry in their patio, we are

sure you’ll love it.

The Restaurant has great food, and an amazing

patio. Located at Diez de Sollano # 16.

La Cevicheria has amazing ceviches and great fish

tacos, it is definitely a must. Located at between the

streets Correo and Diez de Sollano.


Hecho en Mexico is

located in Ancha de

San Antonio # 8. You

Ocre: Hidalgo # 5. Great terrace and very good food.

La Luna at Rosewood, one of the best views in town.

La Terraza of Pegaso is also a great option.

Hotel 1810 has an amazing view of town. Located on

Hidalgo Street.

Marsala: located on Hernandez Macias #48. Mexican/

Mediterranean food.

Nomada: Hernandez Macias #88. Mexican Fusion

La Grotta: Jesus street, great pizzas.

DINNER


For Jazz and very good Mexican food, try hitting up

Tio Lucas, where you wont be dissapointed. Located at

Mesones 103.


If you are in the mood for traditional Mexican food,

head on over to La Posadita, located on Cuna de

Allende #13, and enjoy your favorite Mexican dish while

enjoying the breath taking views of the city.


Dos Casas has an extraordinary chef, worthy of

giving it a try. The name of the restuarant is Aperi, and

they are located at Quebrada # 101.


If you like Sushi, try Sai-Ko in the corner of Hernandez

Macias and Umaran, their sashimi is very good.

Food Factory has a great ambiance, where you

can find a wide variety of wonderful food options

(located at La Aurora Factory).

Mezcaleria San Mezcal, located at Recreo # 96.

They have a great variety of mescals.


Tacos: the best tacos al pastor are in Brasimix, in Salida a

Celaya #20A, try the gringas al pastor. Yummmm!


GREAT NIGHT SCENE


Before the party, you can go to La azotea and drink

something while you enjoy the sunset.

Bekeh it is one of our favorites located on Mesones

#14 where Fabiola Padilla, top mixologist in Mexico, will

serve you the best cocktails with an amazing view of

town.

EXTRA ACTIVITIES


“El Charco del Ingenio” Located a few minutes from

the historical town of San Miguel de Allende, El Charco

del Ingenio is a Botanical Garden and outstanding

Nature Preserve. It also displays a vast botanical

collection of cacti and other Mexican plants, many of

which are rare, threatened or in danger of extinction.

Departing from a visitor center, a network of

surveyed paths allows to discover the preserve’s

highlights, such as plants’ displays, scenic lookouts, bird

sanctuaries, vestiges from the past and an interactive

children’s garden. El Charco is also a unique place for

strolling, jogging, hiking, meditating or simply enjoying

Nature.

on his academic-level introduction to the pre-Hispanic

history of Mexico through visits to the site which he was

invited to help excavate.

The site itself is a true testament to the

mathematical, astronomical and architectural genius

acquired over thousands of years by its builders and their

ancestors.
