Hiking Trails

Picture of Hiking Trails

There are plenty of hiking trails in and around Eden for all levels.

Neighborhood Trails: Click on the Gaia app https://www.gaiagps.com/public/QbB4DcFWMgb1zep444UY8f6M/ for interactive access to an Eden map with activities/trails pinpointed. You can take the paved walking/biking path along the main road (Hwy 158) uphill past the golf course, turn right on Elkhorn, & the trails start by the Retreat on the left. Due to the incline from your rental, it is probably easier for you to drive up & park by the Zaheri's to access trails. Feel free to knock/call/text for directions. Most of the trails connect, so if you come to a road, look across it, or walk a short stretch, and the path continues. You can also walk on the roads within the neighborhoods.

Hikes Beyond the Neighborhood (that you would drive to): Can be found on the AllTrails app, some include: Skull Crack trail (4.7 mi) near Causey Reservoir has salmon spawning now (beautiful place to paddleboard/kayak). Wheeler Creek/Upper Wheeler Creek and Icebox Canyon Loop (4.7 mi); Ridge Trail & Cirque Loop on top of Snowbasin (1 mi+, will do this before Oktoberfest on Sunday; there are other trails there too - site of Olympics 2034); on top of Powder Mtn is Woody's World Trail (2.8 mi) & Paper Airplane Trail (1.2 mi) - you can do them individually, or they connect for a 4 mi total. If you continue past Paper Airplane it loops around for an even longer hike, or bike. When driving down Powder Mtn pump your car's brakes, rather than ride them bc you will smell burning if not (it's a steep drive & there are moose, deer, & cows up there so keep an eye out). North Fork Park & North Ogden Divide has trails. A further drive away: Donut Hole Falls near Cottonwood Canyon and Timpanagos Trails.

There's a shorter paved walking path around the perimeter of Moosehollow & Cascades for those of you staying there.

A favorite of ours that starts behind Zaheri's house, with amazing fall color, is on the Gaia link above & also on Becky Zaheri's All Trails page called "Tree Trail behind Highlands neighborhood" if you want to follow Bec to see the trail. It continues up to the top of the mountain if you're looking for some elevation gain (rocky at the top).

Otherwise, you can search the AllTrails app for hikes that suit you. Some of our favorites beyond the neighborhood include: Wheeler Creek/Upper Wheeler Creek and Icebox Canyon Loop (4.7 mi); Ridge Trail & Cirque Loop on top of Snowbasin (1 mi+ - we will do this before Oktoberfest on Sunday, but if you can't make it then, this is a nice view & there are more trails up there- site of Olympics 2034); on top of Powder Mtn (nice long views up there) is Woody's World Trail (2.8 mi) & Paper Airplane Trail (1.2 mi) - you can do them individually, or they connect if you want to do 4 mi total. If you continue past Paper Airplane it loops back around for an even longer hike. When driving back down Powder Mtn pump your car's brakes, rather than ride them bc you will smell burning if not, haha (it's a steep drive & there are moose, deer & cows up there so keep an eye out). North Fork Park has some trails (moose in that area). A further drive away there's: Donut Hole Falls near Cottonwood Canyon and Timpanogos Trails.

No matter what you do Bring Water!!

Fall Color Drives

Picture of Fall Color Drives

The drive along Hwy 158 from Valley Market is our favorite Fall Color display, take a right at Hwy 39 at the dam & drive thru Ogden Canyon (there have been recent road work closures, so be mindful of time) - there's a waterfall toward the end on the right. At the end, turn around & drive back thru the canyon along Hwy 39, stay straight past the dam & continue around the reservoir, then turn right at Hwy 167 - this passes Snowbasin (so if you're going to Oktoberfest Sunday you will see this then), but you can also continue past Snowbasin thru Mountain Green & down to Morgan Valley (near the Sinclair gas station). The other Fall Color drive is from Valley Market the opposite direction on Hwy 162 thru Liberty (you will pass the bison farm on the left), then go up thru the North Ogden divide. U turn at the Bonneville overlook parking & drive back. All are shown on the Gaia app map at the website link below. (You must download the app first)
