Our Story

Old Friends + New Love

You know those funny little moments in life when something ordinary ends up changing everything? Well, that’s more or less where this whole Alexander-and-Sydney story picked back up.

Funny thing—people kept trying to set Alexander and Sydney up for years. Friends, family, the usual culprits who swear they just know these things. But life was busy (isn’t it always?), and the timing never lined up, so nothing ever really came of it. Not then, anyway.

What finally tipped the universe? A local show at White Water Tavern—long before Tinder or Bumble or whatever new dating app is out there these days (absolutely no judgment). Both of them showed up to see a band they’d separately loved. She didn’t recognize him at first, which he will absolutely hold over her head for the rest of their natural lives. He knew her instantly, though; it was that particular kind of familiar shock, like bumping into an old chapter of yourself you weren’t expecting to revisit.

From there, life unfolded the way real life does—crooked, funny, busy, full. Instead of racing toward a wedding date, they built a home first. They raised Tegan, Polly, and Clyde, each with their own personalities and peculiar habits that somehow stitched their household into something wonderfully loud and soft at the same time. Honestly, they were too busy growing a family and piecing together a home full of inside jokes, mismatched coffee mugs, and big dreams to worry about napkin colors or seating charts. Time slipped by—twelve years of it, which feels impossible and yet perfectly right.

And then one day, with a kind of quiet certainty (and maybe a nudge or two from the peanut gallery), they decided it was finally time. Not because they were in any rush to prove something—everyone already knows how solid they are—but because a celebration suddenly sounded right. A moment to pull everyone they love into one room and dance until someone’s shoes end up forgotten under a table. A beautifully formal evening with a dance floor that’ll probably get rowdier as the night goes on—because let’s be honest, you know this group.

So here we are.

Twelve years later.

Ready at last.

Oh—and if you’re planning to bring a gift, they’re registered at Target, Dillard’s, Pottery Barn, and Tipton & Hurst (just take a peek at the Registry).
