Our Story

"hey, would it be weird if I slid into your DMs?"

After years of watching from afar, Alexandra finally took it upon herself to slide into Tommy's DMs in March of 2020 when the entire world was shutting down. What was there to lose? Why not take a gamble?

Alexandra first saw a picture of Tommy when a previous classmate of hers was tagged in a picture by Tommy. It was March of 2016 and Tommy, Josh, and their friend Kevin were posing with the SEC tournament championship trophy. Alexandra had met Josh in a WRD class in the spring of 2015 and knew he was in marching band.

Immediately, Alexandra thought Tommy was one of the best looking men she'd ever seen in 19 years of her life. Also immediately, she clocked him as WAY out of her league by cool points alone.

And it seemed like everyone she knew knew who Tommy Townsend was and he indeed was so cool.

Years passed, Alexandra was too shy to introduce herself, and it always seemed like Alexandra or Tommy were dating someone else. Then, came the social media follow at some point.

Tommy then started liking all of Alexandra's pictures and posts. She was guilty of making posts just to get his attention. And it worked.

There was also a tinder match in there somewhere around late 2019/early 2020 where they talked for a bit and then Alexandra promptly deleted the app because it wasn't notifying her when people messaged her. Oops!

Finally, with news of COVID-19 quickly spreading across the globe, Alexandra decided to be direct and shoot her shot because what's the worst thing that could happen? The world was probably going to end anyway.

Tommy took an ENTIRE HOUR to respond to Alexandra's "hey, would it be weird if I slid into your DMs?" message. During this time, Alexandra was with mutual friends Kyle and Katie lamenting that she would simply have to block Tommy because he didn't respond.

For Tommy's part, he was at a Steak & Shake with Ally and other people they both mutually knew freaking out because how was he supposed to respond??

He finally responded with a riveting answer: not weird at all. Or something like that - there's now too many memes in the twitter thread to go back and see.

That night, Kyle told Alexandra "you and Tommy Townsend? You know what.... you're on opposite ends of the alternative spectrum but I think it just might work."

Alexandra already knew Tommy was different when she immediately saved his phone number in her phone with his name. Prior to this, dates she went on did not get their named saved in her phone before going through a 90 day probationary period like how you gotta wait for health insurance at a new job.

Tommy came over to Alexandra's apartment one night to watch a murder documentary and drink some wine. Barefoot, because they were classy 23 and 24 year olds.

Something just clicked immediately on the night of their first 'date' and neither of them wanted to be away from the other person. Soon, Alexandra got Tommy interested in RuPaul's Drag Race and then on May 29, 2020 during the Season 12 Finale of RuPaul's Drag Race after only one month of 'officially' dating, Alexandra blurted out "I love you" for the first time.

Tommy stared at Alexandra like a deer in headlights which prompted Alexandra to immediately burst into tears from humiliation before he finally said it back. He swears he wanted to say it first, but Alexandra did say it first, so clearly she loved him more. He cites his moment of being in love as when Alexandra made him cauliflower chicken wings when he was a vegetarian.

Reader: that was their second date.

So, we guess you could say that it was pretty much love at first sight. From there came everything else including their small candle business: With Love Candle Co. This will be your easter egg to see if you read this far - we are renaming our candle business to be Ten26 Fragrance to commemorate our wedding day of October 26.

Through the last four years, Alexandra and Tommy have navigated many life changes and tragedies but they have always done it together.

Until death do we part.
