If you plan on staying in the south of Sweden for a few more days around the wedding and want advice on things to do, we can recommend the following:
Spend a day shopping in Copenhagen at Strøget, have a beer at the harbor in Nyhavn, and visit the amusement park Tivoli. At Tivoli, it’s also lovely to just walk around and have something sweet to nibble on. Or why not enjoy a meal at the food hall located between Tivoli and the central station?
If you have a rental car, you can drive along the coastline of Skåne. Visit Glimmingehus (the best-preserved medieval castle in the Nordic region) and head to Smygehuk, the southernmost point in Sweden. From there, continue east and have a nice lunch at the harbor in Kåseberga (fish and seafood), then hike up some hills to see Ales Stenar, a megalithic monument shaped like an oval stone ship.
If you want to go shopping, the city of Ystad is beautiful in the summer and is well known for being the setting of the Swedish crime series "Wallander." Ystad is also home to our favorite spa, Ystad Saltsjöbad, if you’re in the mood to relax.
If you like apples, you should visit Kiviks Musteri, where you can take a tour to see how they make their famous raw juice and cider. They also serve an amazing lunch, either there or at Buhres Fisk in the harbor of Kivik (fish and seafood).
If you enjoy hiking, there are many beautiful spots to explore, such as Stenshuvud, Brösarps Backar, or the beaches of Haväng, Sandhammaren, and Knäbäckshusens Strand.
The Skåneleden Trail is also stunning and easy to hike in sections. Or take a bike ride on the old railway in Tomelilla, known as "dressin."
You can also drive to Blåherremölla for some wonderful waffles or stop to see a small waterfall in Hallamölla or a larger one called Forsakar in Degeberga.
Another option is to visit Helsingborg, a beautiful city on the west coast, and take the ferry over to Helsingør in Denmark. While you're there, be sure to visit the famous Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.
Båstad, also on the west coast, is known for its tennis weeks—Nordea Open, which will take place from July 7–20, 2025. If you’re in Båstad, you can’t miss a trip to the beautiful gardens of Rudolf Abelin at Norrvikens Trädgårdar, a place where we almost chose to get married.
If you want a bit of speed and excitement and wish to see the Öresund Bridge from below, you should contact Waterfun in Malmö. They offer speed RIB-boat trips out into the Öresund and toward the bridge, often even to Flakfortet (a Danish old sea fort), reaching speeds of up to 70 knots.
For a longer stay, we also recommend Göteborg. The city is cozy and beautiful, with its trams and many outdoor restaurants in the summer—be sure to visit Avenyn street. You can also head up to the restaurant Heaven 23 in Gothia Towers Hotel for one of their king-size shrimp sandwiches with a great drink and an amazing view. If you have kids, you can't miss Liseberg Amusement Park (which, in our opinion, is the best in Sweden) or Universeum, where you can explore a rainforest, the sea, and see everything from birds and sloths to sharks.
If you’re planning a trip to Stockholm, be sure to see the Vasa ship from 1627 at the Vasa Museum. Take a stroll through the old quarters of Gamla Stan, visit the royal palace to see some of the treasures, or go on a shopping spree at NK (Nordiska Kompaniet, the famous shopping mall). Or visit Skansen to experience Swedish culture and nature at the open-air museum.
Enjoy!
