Italy uses the Europe Currency (EU). Shown as €, and ofter referred to as Euros. The exchange rate fluctuates with the US Dollar daily. You can exchange US dollars prior to leaving for Italy at many Banks or Exchange companies. You can also exchange US dollars for Euros in Italy at exchange companies. Some Italian Banks have partnerships with US Banks and will allow you to withdraw Euros from ATM's in Italy directly from your US bank account. Warning - The Fees and costs of each of these options vary dramatically and can be very high. So it is advised to plan ahead. To minimize these fees, It is recommended that you use a Credit Card instead since they are widely excepted at restaurants, shops and venues. The exchange rate is usually better than the cash exchange. Many credit cards do not have exchange fee (check yours prior to departure). In Italy, you will need a Type C (2-pronged) or Type L (3-pronged) outlet adaptor to plug into your devices. You may need a Voltage Converter for curling irons and other appliances. Please check what your device requirements are and what your accommodation requirements are before traveling abroad.

If you are renting a car in Italy, it is highly recommended and in many cases required by the rental company to get an International Drivers Permit. (IDP) You can easily Obtain an IDP at any AAA Branch, no appointment required. Bring a valid U.S. driver license, $20 and two passport-size photos, which are 2 inches x 2 inches, with a white background. We can also take photos for you at a nominal charge.
