Getting to Malta ✈️🥂

We’re planning to fly from Stansted to Malta and will be staying for a week (24th - 31st May), and we’ll share our flight details as soon as we’ve booked in case you’d like to join us on the same ones. We’re aiming to book both our flights and accommodation well in advance, so feel free to do the same if you'd like to coordinate. Malta International Airport (MLA) is the island’s only airport and is well-connected to the UK with regular direct flights from several airports. Flights usually take around 3 hours.

Staying in Malta 🤩🍻

There are plenty of places to stay in Malta, from hotels and resorts to apartments and Airbnb's. As it's a small island, no matter where you stay, you'll never be too far from the fun! A few options: Malta Marriott Hotel &amp; SpaWe’ll be staying at the Malta Marriott Resort &amp; Spa during our wedding trip! There’s absolutely no pressure to book at the same hotel, but please be aware that room availability is very limited due to other large group bookings at the same time. If you'd like to stay at the Marriott, we recommend booking as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Courtyard by Marriott SliemaA short distance from St. Julian’s, the Courtyard by Marriott Sliema is another great option. We stayed here on a recent trip and had a fantastic time — the staff were so lovely, the hotel was stylish and clean, and the food was great too. There’s also a lovely little rooftop pool area, perfect for relaxing, topping up your tan or nursing a hangover! Other accommodation options in the area recommended by our wedding planner include: Barceló Fortina MaltaVoco Malta by IHGME MaltaHyatt RegencyHyatt Centric These hotels offer a range of styles and budgets, but again please don't feel pressured to choose one of these, choose whatever works best for you! 🥰

Getting Around Malta 🚗☀️

Malta is a small island – you can often get from one side to the other in under an hour—but do allow extra time for travel, especially on the wedding day, as traffic can get heavy. Getting around is easy thanks to apps like Bolt, which we've found to be very reasonably priced.&nbsp; If you fancy exploring on foot, just a heads-up that Malta is quite hilly—so pack comfy shoes! Thinking of hiring a car? You’ll be glad to know they drive on the same side of the road as we do in the UK.

FOR THE BEACH LOVERS

Golden Bay (Mellieħa)&nbsp;☀️👙One of Malta’s most popular beaches which is situated on the northwest coastline. Golden sands and azure waters await. Choose a sunbed and top up your tan.&nbsp; Mellieħa Bay 🏖️🐚Described as being ‘one of the most family-friendly beaches’ on the island, thanks to its 50 metres of shallow water making for a gradual descent into the sea. A fantastic spot for swimming, snorkelling, sunbathing, and watersports.&nbsp; A boat trip to the Blue Lagoon 🌊⛵️You might choose to take a boat trip to a destination celebrated as one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. Tour the caves, take a dip in the crystal clear waters, or simply sit back, relax and take in the beauty.

FOR THE PARTY ANIMALS 

For the Wild Ones: Paceville 💃🍾Malta’s infamous party area, Paceville, has been described as ‘not for the faint-hearted’, ‘unapologetically wild’, and ‘unforgettable’ and for good reason. Located in the heart of St. Julian’s, this neighbourhood comes alive when the sun goes down. Expect everything from bustling Irish pubs and vibrant cocktail bars to exciting nightclubs where international DJs keep the party going until the early hours.&nbsp; For the Day-to-Night Crowd: Café del Mar 🌞🌙&nbsp;In the mood to sip a crisp glass of wine, catch a few rays, and soak up stunning panoramic sea views? The iconic Café del Mar awaits. By day, this is the perfect location to nurse a hangover or relax in style with sunbeds available to hire. You can also enjoy a delicious bite to eat too. The fun doesn’t stop as the sun dips below the horizon, Café del Mar transforms into a stylish evening hotspot. The website has a useful calendar with event information.&nbsp; For the Cocktail Connoisseur 🍸✨If wild venues and partying all night isn’t quite your scene, Malta still has plenty to offer when it comes to stylish, low-key evenings. Medasia Lounge in Sliema is a great choice for those who love an elegant setting—think plush seating, ambient lighting, and Asian-fusion cocktails. For a drink with a view, head to TwentyTwo, a sky bar on the 22nd floor of Portomaso Tower in St. Julian’s. Hammett’s Gastro Bar offers a more laid-back experience, with inventive small plates and an impressive cocktail list. These are just a few popular options, but you’ll find plenty more!

Malta is positively bursting with restaurants—there’s something to suit every palate, budget, and vibe. But if you’re in the mood for something a little extra special, here are a few ideas.&nbsp; Brunch &amp; Beyond 🥞☕️Brunch… but make it aesthetic ✨. Brunch &amp; Beyond is a stylish restaurant situated in St. Julians offering everything from fluffy pancakes and scrumptious fried breakfasts to pasta dishes and crisp salads.&nbsp; OKA's at The Villa 🥩🍸On our last trip to Malta, we had a fantastic meal at OKA The Villa. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent, and the views were great too.&nbsp; The Avenue 🍝🍷Located in the heart of St. Julians, The Avenue boasts an extensive menu which caters to a variety of tastes, featuring everything from fresh seafood and hearty steaks to an array of pastas and pizzas. Zest 🍋🍜Also based in St. Julian’s and one of the seven Michelin star restaurants in Malta, Zest is an Asian restaurant serving up deliciously fresh sushi, flavoursome noodles, soft bao buns, inventive small plates, and more.

Malta is brimming with museums and historical sights waiting to be explored. Discover ancient temples like Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra—older than the pyramids—wander the medieval streets of Mdina, or marvel at Valletta’s grand architecture. Step inside the stunning St. John’s Co-Cathedral, browse the National Museum of Archaeology, or venture underground at the mysterious Hypogeum. Known as the Silent City, Mdina earns its nickname from its peaceful, car-free streets and tranquil atmosphere that offers a stark contrast to the busier areas in Malta.
