How We Met

Picture of How We Met

After having relocated to Florida in 2019, Xan had found her way back to Columbus, Ohio in June of 2021 for the wedding weekend of her best friend Amanda, who just so happened to be getting married to Kyle's childhood best friend, Tate! First on the agenda was a quick venue rehearsal. Enter in every member of the bridal party and immediate family of both the bride and groom, and Xan's eyes went straight to a certain someone! She did what any logical person would have done in that situation; immediately texted Amanda during the middle of the ceremony rehearsal (see above photo)! The weekend continued, a beautiful celebration of love was had and as everyone had set back home, Kyle and Xan decided to spend the day together before he ventured back to his hometown of Ravenna. They enjoyed their time together over a trip to Men's Warehouse for a tux return and what would turn out to be the first of many Panera dates! From there they parted ways both hoping that they would see each other again, and this was only just the beginning!

The Proposal

Xan and Kyle found themselves out to dinner one Friday night brainstorming their plans for the upcoming weekend. Kyle’s parents were staying 2 hours away in Marco Island for the remainder of the winter season and they had come up with the idea of hosting them for the day! Their Saturday plan to bar hop throughout Downtown Sarasota during the day, ending with a tour of Xan & Kyle’s soon to be new home! After getting word from Kyle’s parents that they were running late due to traffic (typical Florida) they decided to get out and take a walk along the Bayfront Park to kill some time and check out the Marina. Their stroll started with admiring the beautiful yet foggy morning skyline as well as looking at the many boats that occupied the Marina. In typical Xan fashion, she pulled out her phone to start taking photos to capture the memories and as they walked along, she noticed a nonworking fountain accompanied by a bench that were both lined with huge, vibrant, beautiful long stemmed yellow roses (Xan’s favorite flower). The first thing that came to her mind was that it was a beautiful monument/way to honor the fountain for the damage it took from the hurricane that occurred months before. As they made their way closer, more and more yellow roses came into view not only lining the fountain but covering the surrounding benches, sidewalks and pathways. Kyle immediately grabbed Xan’s hand giving it an extra tight squeeze, looked in her eyes with a huge smile and asked “are you ready for this?” as he lead her further down the sidewalk. After getting down on one knee and getting engaged in the most perfect moment, out from hiding came both of their parents, blasting “Marry You” by Bruno Mars with smiles ear to ear! Everyone enjoyed their moments gushing over a successful proposal and celebrating the future Mr. and Mrs. Spellman!
