Chris and Alexia met online in March of 2020. Just as they were beginning to plan a first date, Seattle entered its first shutdown, and all restaurants and bars were closed. They met up for a walk around Greenlake, wondering if they would ever be able to go on a real date. On the second date, Alexia even said If this works out, we'll have a crazy story to tell our grandchildren: 'We met during a pandemic, and could only go on dates outside!' She was kidding, but it turned out to be portentous.
Following two weeks of quarantine (and daily video calls) when the first stay at home order was announced, the couple began spending weekends together, and then weeks at a time, as both transitioned to work from home. As it turns out, you learn a lot about someone in quarantine and a lot about how well you work together as partners during a global pandemic.
Chris and Alexia enjoy spending their time at home cooking, playing with Chris's shih tzu, painting, playing games, putting together miniatures, and doing puzzles. They have managed to get to know each other's friends and families, mostly via video calls and voice chats, and sometimes at socially distanced gatherings. They are thrilled to be entering the era of vaccinations and cautiously gathering again with loved ones, and going out to eat in restaurants for the first time!
In honor of their pandemic romance, and out of an abundance of caution, their wedding is planned as a small, intimate affair in Seattle, but they are excited to be able to share the occasion with loved ones near and far via livestreaming! Please RSVP for a link to the wedding ceremony on September 25, 2021.
Alexia and Chris hope to follow up next year, or whenever it is safe and possible, with a big party for whoever is interested and able to come! Stay tuned for more details in 2022.
