We’re so excited to celebrate with you on Vashon Island—and we’d love for you to make a weekend of it! All guests are welcome to stay on-site at no cost following the celebration.
We’re so excited to host our guests for the weekend and are providing complimentary on-site lodging at Camp Burton for the night of the wedding. Rooms and cabins are just steps from the ceremony and reception, making it easy to settle in and fully enjoy the celebration. Staying overnight means no driving after the festivities—and more time to relax, connect, and soak up the camp atmosphere. Check-out for all on-site lodging is at 11:00 AM the following morning.
The Retreat Center offers very simple, no-frills accommodations for guests who prefer a quieter, more private stay while still being on-site at camp. This dorm-style building has 12 rooms, each with three twin beds and a private full bathroom. Think classic camp beds rather than hotel mattresses, but linens are provided.
Priority for Retreat Center rooms will be given to guests who were old enough to drive during the Bush administration.
The cabins offer a more rustic, classic camp experience and are a great option for groups, families, or anyone excited to lean into the camp vibe. There are thirteen cabins total, and each cabin can accommodate up to ten guests with four bunk beds and two single beds. Every cabin has a full bathroom. Linens are not provided in the cabins, so guests will need to bring their own blankets, pillows, and towels. Dogs are welcome in the cabins for a $50 per pet fee.
If staying at camp isn’t your preference, there are additional off-site lodging options on Vashon, primarily Airbnbs. Vashon has a wide range of Airbnbs, including cottages, guesthouses, cabins, and larger homes suitable for families or groups. These are by far the most common off-site lodging option on the island. Availability can be limited during the summer, so early booking is strongly recommended.
How to Take the Ferry to Vashon Island, WA
Washington State Ferries (WSF) operates three car and passenger ferry routes to Vashon Island. The best one to take depends on where you are coming from.
Traffic is loaded on a first-come, first-served basis. The ferry trip itself is short (15-20 minutes), but wait times can be long, especially during peak seasons.
Fare collection: Fares are collected only when traveling to Vashon Island, not when departing.
Fare types: Fares vary by passenger type (adult, senior, youth) and vehicle size.
Peak travel: Lines for cars can be long, especially during the summer and on weekends. It is recommended to arrive well before your planned departure.
Entrance: $10 per person/90 minutes (Llama Happy Hour), $50 per person/3 hours (Weaving)
Four geriatric llamas and their caretakers live on the island. There are several experiences you can book. Adults will love the llama happy hour. BYOB and snacks, take pictures, and chat with their caretaker, Kelly, while the llamas graze nearby. You may get to feed them too (if the llamas are up for it!). Feeling crafty? Book a “weaving with friends” visit to learn how to weave with the llama’s wool and take home your own handmade creation.
Jensen Point is a beautiful place to enjoy all Vashon Island has to offer. The park is located on a small point on the island. Across from the park you will see Maury Island. The water surrounding the park is part of the Maury Island Aquatic Reserve. The park has a boat launch and picnic tables.
Vashon Adventures is located at the Jensen Point boathouse, which is where you can go to rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards. They have rentals for two hours, four hours, or a full day. Please note that the boathouse is open seasonally and reservations are required. You can make same-day reservations, but they ask that you give at least 30 minutes notice. They offer classes and guided tours as well. (There’s even a moonlit after-hours tour!)
Maury Island Marine Park has views of the mountain and many Pacific Madrone trees. You might even see herons or eagles during your visit. This park has over a mile of shoreline and is a must-see while you’re on the island. There’s also over three miles of trails at this park.
The Mukai Farm and Garden is a historical farm located on Vashon Island. The farm was founded in 1926 as a strawberry farm by the Mukai family. Currently, it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The farm is free and open to the public. When you visit, you can check out the restored heritage home, the Japanese Garden, and the barreling plant.
A giant troll was recently constructed on Vashon Island out of all-natural materials as part of an art installation. The troll, named Oscar the Bird King, was constructed in 2023 by Danish artist Thomas Dambo. You can find it at Point Robinson. The troll is part of an art project titled “Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King.” There are several other trolls located across the Pacific Northwest. The trolls will be on display for at least three years.
Thank you so much for celebrating with us. As we prepare for our wedding, we’re also getting ready for a big move to Boynton Beach, Florida this June. Because we’ll be relocating so soon, we’re hoping to keep things simple and avoid adding too many physical gifts to the boxes we’ll need to pack. Moving is expensive, so if you’d like to support us, a contribution toward our moving fund would be deeply appreciated.
